With Wordfence (latest version installed – v 6.1.7) and the Enfold layout builder (v 3.5.4) I’m having sporadic issues where attempting to edit a content block (purely with text) results in an error message: “Error fetching content. Please reload and try again.” Reload makes no difference. Disable the plug-in, reload the page, one can edit the content. Re-enable the plug-in, reload the page and the error returns. There is a direct correlation.
Forcing a reload (shift + f5) makes no difference. Note this has nothing to do with Wordfence caching as this feature is completely disabled.
Can anyone assist? Do I have to live without Wordfence?
Cheers!
Hi again,
After the FTP update it seems that all new pages that I create can be re-edited which is Great news!
I am/ I was still not able to edit the old “faulty” pages, so I worked my way around it and created new pages, copied the text from the faulty ones, saved and thereafter had a new version of the page. I then deleted the faulty ones and I now don’t get the same message!
I guess the update didn’t apply instantly for some reason, but it worked by it self the day after.
The reason why I asked what countries you work from, is that wordfence don’t have the possibility to save country block settings as a template.
You may close the subject! Thank you!
I looked through the list you linked and don’t see an alternative to Wordfence. Can you recommend one?
Hey!
Glad you found it! Please disable the firewall in Wordfence and check or use an alternate plugin https://kriesi.at/support/topic/recommended-plugins/
Cheers!
Vinay
Wordfence 6.1.7 is the offender.
Disabling Wordfence worked for me. How will be know when the issue is resolved so we can re-enable the security?
Hey!
Do you have wordfence running at all?
Can you please confirm?
Please also try to remove the mod security from Apache and let us know if that works
Best regards,
Basilis
Hi!
There is a known issue, which we are trying to fix.
If wordfance is active please disable it, until the wordfence guys fix the issue from the API.
Thanks a lot
Cheers!
Basilis
Hey!
Please disable wordfence, at least for now, so you can have it been working.
We know the issue and we do look for a solution for it.
Thanks a lot for your understanding.
@elames I have removed the private data, for security reasons, please provide it ONLY when you are author for the ticket.
Cheers!
Basilis
I already sent you my login stuff in the first message. Here it is again.
When I click in the content area for that section to edit the text is when the Error message occurs.
Everything is up to date and the site has functioned well with editing before,
So I don’t understand why this is happening.
I have done lots of editing previously with Wordfence active so why now all of a sudden is this happening?
thank you in advance:-)

Hi,
do you have the Wordfence Security plugin installed? If so, try disabling that and trying again.
There is another thread open about this: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/avia-layout-text-block-error-632390/
Hi again Yigit
I have replaced the iframe code block with an ALB video element and then re-enabled the Wordfence firewall. That has solved the problem. So, the iframe code I used seems to have been the cause. For info.
Thanks, Mark
Thanks Yigit. Yes, I have activated Wordfence again and then turned on Learning mode and the pages are all loading fine.
Thanks for that.
Interesting that some pages don’t load whereas others do. I am wondering if there is a specific element on the pages that Wordfence does not like. I have a couple of code blocks (see below). I have now replaced the iframe code with a video element in ALB. Just wondering if they may be the cause and trying to understand what may be causing the problem.
<iframe width=”563″ height=”300″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/Pn2g83uhvjA” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

Your thoughts on these code blocks potentially causing the issue?
Thanks, Mark
Hi Yigit
Thanks for coming back to me. I couldnt find out where to put it into learning mode – are you able to tell me how? I deactivated the plugin anyway and everything now works… but i would still like some protection. Please let me know which security plugin you find works well with Enfold that is an alternative to Wordfence.
Thanks
R
What I am trying to figure out is why only this website has an issue. The 30 or so other websites with Enfold and Wordfence do not seem to have the same issue.
Actually, I have just deactivated the Wordfence plugin and the pages are loading now.
Hi,
Can you please try putting Wordfence plugin into learning mode and check if that helps?
Best regards,
Yigit
This issue was closed before a real solution was provided. Am I missing something? There is currently a work around, but no permanent fix.
Issue: Getting the following error message and can’t edit text box.
Error fetching content – please reload the page and try again.
Work around: Disable Wordfence plugin, edit text box, then remember to enable Wordfence again.
Thanks,
Brent
There was a small script at the bottom of htaccess:
# Wordfence WAF
<Files “.user.ini”>
<IfModule mod_authz_core.c>
Require all denied
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_authz_core.c>
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
</IfModule>
</Files>
# END Wordfence WAF
I am seeing the same thing. I can disable Wordfence and able to edit text box content, then activate after done editing. This is a bit of a pain right now though. Please let me know when a fix is available.
Thanks,
Brent
I figured out the issue. This was due to Wordfence Firewall. I had to disable the firewall to update the page and then re-enable after the update.
Thx
Hi Andy i use falcon engine of Wordfence as chacing, not other. And i have already tried what you suggest me now… But nothing changed
I don’t really know what i can do more.
Could you help me please
Thanks so much
Hi @all,
we have a security problem on two pages:
http://hansjanotta.com (this site is running) and
http://sunnysidebusinessclub.com (this site is blocked at whole)
It is not caused through enfold but the plugin “wordfence” (on the http://hansjanotta.com) found the issue that there is a unknown url in the header.php. I found this url but does not know how much I have to delete to get rid of this. What will happen if I just change header.php via ftp through the original? Or how can I see what the theme needs and what not.
Sorry, I know it is your part of the job… but maybe you have a tip for me.
Thanks. Sophie
After completing the cell edits I Enabled the Firewall feature inside the Wordfence plugin.
Just out of curiosity I Disabled the Firewall feature inside the Wordfence plugin while it was still running and presto – I was able to edit the element icon inside the cell.
Hopefully others can learn from my experience.
njmjdesign,
Here is the solution:
The issue is Wordfence conflict, I will have to look into it deeper when I have more time.
Hi,
I think WordFence is blocking access to your site, at least for the region I’m in:
Your access to this service has been temporarily limited. Please try again in a few minutes. (HTTP response code 503)
So I couldn’t log in to check your installation unfortunately.
If you go to your Themeforest account and select to download the theme from there it should be the latest version. You can then try to overwrite your theme files via FTP: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/
Regards,
Rikard
Hi,
Thank you for the info.
Please follow the instructions provided here: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/theme-error/
And updating the theme manually via FTP should fix it: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/
After the update, install security plugins like the following:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/
Best regards,
Ismael
Hi,
There appears to be a conflict with the wordfence plugin. With the plugin activated, I regularly get an error “Error fetching content – please reload the page and try again” when trying to edit text. Am using the latest versions of WP, theme and wordfence. Are you aware of this, and is there a solution for it?
Hi,
Similar to others, I have a problem with ALB on Enfold 3.5.4, WordPress 4.5.2.
I’ve tried disabling all plugins, including WordFence. Have added the functions.php script. Have switched back to a default theme. Have done a fresh install of Enfold by downloading ZIP and uploading via FTP. And i’ve tried all of the other ideas listed on the forum.
Seems to be happening to a lot of people?
Can you please have a look for me. Need to fix something on our site urgently.
Cheers,
Matt
