  • I had been using a CommentLuv plugin but ended up deactivating it last night while trying to figure out what is going on with my site because I noticed the developer hasn’t updated it in years and wondered if it was now conflicting with recent updates to Enfold. The issue persists whether it’s activated or not. I reset the password on the account I sent you and provided the new login info below.

Actually, I think I have this resolved. I was using PHP7.2 and just asked my host to update me to PHP7.3. As soon as the update was made, everything seems to working fine.

in reply to: Symbols appearing right before my website loads #1228273

Sure, that’s fine. You can do whatever you need to do with those for debugging purposes.

I did try switching to the parent theme and the symbols still show up. The only difference is that they actually stay visible in the top left corner instead of disappearing when the page loads. I deactivated it and went back to my child theme but if having the symbols visible helps with troubleshooting, it can be switched back to the parent.

Thanks so much to Rickard, Victoria, and Nikko for all of your help and for your patience. I just followed the instructions on the link Nikko provided and that appears to have solved all of my problems. I was able to update to PHP7.2 and once I got that to update successfully, I was then able to edit that widget that was giving me so much trouble in the first place. Thanks again!

Hi Victoria, I’ve posted the errors I got the last time I tried to update to PHP 7 in the private content area of this post. I’m unfortunately not tech savvy enough to know what they mean or how to resolve them.

I just tried to update to PHP 7 using the Enfold parent theme and unfortunately got the same white screen and critical error message.

Hi Rikard, thanks for your reply. I’ve tried disabling all of the plugins and then updating to PHP 7 but I still just get a white screen and a critical error.

A little additional troubleshooting – If I switch from my Enfold child theme over to the WordPress Twenty-Twenty theme, I can update to PHP 7 just fine and the site doesn’t crash. If I then try to switch back to the Enfold child theme, however, I get the white screen and the critical error all over again and have to revert back to PHP 5.6 to get the site back up.

Everything looks great now. Thank you both so much for all of your help!

    Hi Victoria,

What I want for the tablet view is what you’re seeing in the first image you shared (Image 2018-06-21 at 17.55.03.png). That’s actually the way it looked after you helped removed the extra white space that I initially had.

Now, however, I’m not seeing that anymore since the tweaks were made to the phone view. Even after clearing the cache on my iPad repeatedly, I’m seeing a plain text only version of the header. I’ve posted a screen shot of my tablet view in the private content. So what I’m trying to determine now is can I get the tablet view back to the way it looked in your first screenshot without undoing the fix for the smartphone view that Ismael went in and did for me.

Thanks. I thought I had done that, but I just tried it again and now I think I’m seeing what you see. It looks much better on the phone now. It’s definitely big enough and I’m fine with the words-only portion of the logo on the smartphone view. Thanks so much for sorting that out for me.

I don’t know if this is possible, but I really preferred the tablet view the way it was prior to these last tweaks. Is there a way to make it so that only the smartphone view switches to that plain words-only version of the logo? I was very happy with the way the tablet view looked after Victoria provided that coding earlier in the thread when it still had the complete logo with the images on it and would like to get back to that if it’s possible, without messing up what you did to fix the smartphone view. If not, no worries. I just tend to use my tablet in landscape mode and so it looks very plain up there without the complete logo.

Hi and thanks for continuing to assist me with this issue. Unfortunately when I view my site on a tablet and phone now, the images are missing from my logo on both views. I was happy with the way it was looking on the tablet after the tweaks we made before so I didn’t want that one to change any further. On the phone view, the images are also missing from the logo but the logo is also no bigger than it was before and it’s still pushed off to the left rather than centered.

in reply to: Logo too small on iPad and smart phones #975260

Thanks Ismael. I created a smaller version of the logo and tried to use the code you provided but I don’t see any difference in size when I view it on my phone. It’s still very small and now it’s pushed over to the left instead of being centered.

Is there a way to move the mobile menu and the search button to somewhere else in the mobile view to give the logo more room at the top to stretch all the way across the phone screen? I don’t really have any preference as to where those two things are located and definitely don’t need them up there with the logo if moving those would give me the look I want with the logo.

If not, I would at least like to get the logo re-centered on the phone view.

    Thanks!

Thanks so much, Victoria. That code did a great job of removing all of the extra space on the tablet view and it has the logo more centered on the phone view, which is exactly what I wanted.

On the smartphone view, is there any way to make the logo itself just a little bit larger/wider? It’s a good size on the desktop view and tablet view, but It’s still just appearing a little smaller on phone screens than I hoped it would.

    Hi Ismael,

Thanks so much for your help. I don’t know if I inserted the code incorrectly or not, but I don’t see any difference on the iPad view. That same extra white space is there. Do I need to change the pixel size to remove some of the extra white space between the logo and the menu bar? (Sorry, I’m not very tech savvy.)

On the smart phone view, I’d like the logo to be centered and stretch across the width of the screen so that it looks more like the desktop and smartphone views. Is there a way to do that and make it appear a little bigger? Relocating the mobile menu and the search icon is fine with me if that needs to be done to make the logo area bigger on smart phone view.

    Hi Mike,

I contacted my service provider after your initial response and they were able to replicate my issue and determine it had something to do with the firewall settings on the server. They made a couple of tweaks and the issue appears to be resolved, so I think I’m good to go now. Thanks!

    Great, thank you!

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for looking into this issue. I’m unfortunately not computer savvy enough to know much about the .htaaccess file and how that works so I definitely would not have added any rules to that myself. Could a plugin have done something to it? I did have a All-In-One WP Security Plugin installed when this issue started happening. Since I know that has a pretty heavy duty spam blocker, I disabled it a couple of days ago to see if it would make a difference, but the issue seems to persist.

Thanks for looking into this. She says she was using a Samsung Galaxy s7, Chrome browser on Android Nougat (7).

That worked perfectly. Thank you, Yigit!

I think my issue may be resolved but I’m not entirely sure how or why. I reset my permalinks back to default and then changed them right back to the custom setting I was using. When I re-saved the settings and went back out to my site, I was able to advance to pages 2, 3, etc. on my blog without any issues.

I do have one more cosmetic question though. Should I ask that here or open up a new topic? It’s about the vertical line that separates the widget area from the rest of the page. I like the way it looks when I’m viewing it on my computer but when I view the site on my iPad, it looks weird because I have the widgets set to load beneath the main page so the separator is just sitting out there all by itself off to the right. Is there a way I can hide the line on the iPad view without removing it from the normal computer view?

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

I tried deactivating all of the plugins and even with them all deactivated, I still get the 404 error message when I click page 2 or any of the pages after that.

    Sure. Posting them below, thanks!

    Hi Jordan,

That didn’t seem to do anything either unfortunately. What’s really strange and maybe this will help narrow down what the issue is – it only seems to be happening with the post tags in that Reviews category. Other categories in Latest Posts are displaying as they should.

in reply to: How to remove post tags from front page #694068

    Hi Yigit,

Unfortunately I just tried it and it didn’t make any difference. The tags are still showing up on the front page.

in reply to: Blog Post Meta Elements running together #687797

Thanks so much for the quick response. I grabbed a piece of code to adjust something else and that must have been tacked on to the end of it. I removed it as suggested and everything seems to be displaying properly now. Thank you!

That did the trick. Thanks so much, Jordan!
