oH ok, thanks very much mate, As always once you explain it I feel kinda silly but I’m very grateful for your assistance. I didn’t actually change anything in the PT website but now it also produces a 200 code so whatever happened has worked.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
Thanks Rikard, according to https://httpstatus.io/ it still produces a 404 error.
Ok Thanks Rikard. I have two websites with the Enfold theme and they both have the same problem. Both temporary logins are posted in the private section.
thanks very much
Hi Rikard. No i’m not using any 404 page, just what comes with the theme
Hi Victoria, Thanks for your reply. i need help from here because since my orignal post I’ve been on other forums and getting emails back from other support groups that have been quicker but unsuccessful.
I’ve cleared the cache and I still get the 404 error for both of my websites.

http://www.aceselfdefense.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Screen-Shot-2019-02-27-at-3.51.12-pm.pngThose results came from https://httpstatus.io/
This is the response I got from Yoast….
Although the homepage displays content, the page returns a 404 Not Found status code. The code can be checked here: https://httpstatus.io/
Sometimes resetting the permalink structure will quickly solve a 404 error from a recent change to your installation. Go to Admin > Settings > Permalinks and click save without altering anything. Then test the homepage here. If it returns a 200 OK, it can take up to a week for Google to index the changes you made, depending on how often your website is crawled. So for now, we’ll have to wait for Google to crawl your site again.
Sometimes you can speed up this process as described in this KB: Fetch as Googlebot
If it still returns a 404 Not Found, this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one, starting with Yoast SEO, to identify the source of your troubles.
We understand if you wouldn’t want to deactivate your plugins and switch themes on a production site, so it may be preferable that you set up a staging environment for your tests. Some popular web hosts offer quick setups for a staging site so please contact your web host for assistance.
If your web host does not offer staging sites, this article will help you create a staging site: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/
If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

Hello? Can anybody help me? All of the support I’ve received elsewhere says that plugins must be the issue for returning a 404 error on my homepage but I’m not using any plugins that I wasn’t using with the older version of enfold.
I have tried running tests when all of the plugins are disabled so it can’t be plugins can it?
When I deactivated the enfold theme and activate the twenty sixteen theme the 404 problem disappeared immediately.
has anybody experienced the same problem with the enfold update?
Can anybody help me resolve this issue, I’m sick of all of my hard work in both of my enfold themed sites, all going to waste. I paid for the Yoast plugin and now the theme has made my site unindexable…. is anybody answering on here?

I posted a message but deleted – solved my problem. thanks

Thanks Nikko. I’ve now completed the update. I’m always nervous doing that kind of stuff.
Sorry about the late reply, thanks very much for making such a comprehensive answer.
For some reason, like millions of other people it seems, I cannot get my FTP application to connect to the server 530 error. I’m waaaaay over spending days and days trying to resolve this.
Can you tell me why I can’t just carry out the update using cpanel? I’m sure i’ve used it before for an update.
Can somebody pleas clarify whether I can use the cpanel to update the theme or do I have to use FTP?
Thanks very much
That’s awesome thanks very much Rikard, you’ve always got the solutions. :)
and now this one but it won’t let me edit the page to remove it via yoast

and now I’m getting this one in search results too
I didn’t remove the .htaccess because I wasn’t sure which of the 3 I needed to remove.
For some reason both websites appear to have resolved the issue. I’m not sure what the problem was or how it has resolved but i’m glad I’m back on track – frustrating. Thanks for your help Rikard.
Can we please keep this thread open for a few more days in case it reoccurs?
Thanks
Thanks Rikard,
On this website ( as opposed to my other one that the same thing is happening to) when I change it to the default WP theme i do NOT get this problem.
I saved my permalinks to ‘day and name’ again and that didn’t resolve the issue. It’s definitely only when I am using the enfold theme. I also update my php in my FTP control panel but that didn’t resolve anything.
I can find a few .htaccess files when I search my root directory but I don’t know which one to delete, which folder do I delete it from?
I also tried deactivating both plugins but it didn’t resolve the issue. FWIW both of those plugins have been working harmoniously with the enfold theme on my other site but both sites have run into this problem in the last 24hrs.

In fact I’m getting the same problem on my other WP website which is an enfold theme…. this is bizarre..
Update. I set it to plain and it still doesn’t save/update any changes.
I’ve added a temporary link to the private section
Hi Rikard,
Thanks for suggesting that, I found the permalinks but I can’t see a reset function, do you mean just select ‘plain’ because it is on ‘day and name’ atm?
Thanks
OK thanks mate, wishful thinking on my part lol
Hi Dude,
Thanks for explaining that, it makes sense now. I have only recently started using Instagram so I’m not all that familiar with it.
Thanks again
SteamedYes but that only links to my Instagram page, as opposed to the ‘share’ icons at the bottom of the blog post. i would like to be able to share the blog from that page to my Instagram and have other people to be able to share it to their Instagram also.

Ok thanks very much for that. I can’t believe I missed that, I seriously spent days going through everything… must have had a boy look. Thanks Victoria.
Hi Victoria,
Thanks again for you reply. Those widgets seem to have disappeared now which is great, perhaps my browser wasn’t refreshing yesterday.
Yes that grey section that you showed the screen capture of is the one I want to remove. I’ve tried all of the settings for headings etc but for some reason I can’t find how to remove that grey section without having the layer slider or a transparent header. I just want the page to display as it is but without that ‘Blog – Latest news’ in grey. It looks fine but no other part of the website uses that grey section so I would like to remove it to maintain consistency.
Thanks
Hi Victoria,
Thanks very much for your reply. I did remove those widgets as you’ve stated but even once they are in the inactive widgets section, they still appear on the post/page itself. Not sure why.
Are you able to provide a solution for the problem I asked about in the first post – point 2?
Thanks
Thanks Ismael. Do I do that from my cpanel or is it within the WP dashboard?
Ok thanks for that Basilis, I think for now I’ll remove the search function (once I figure out how to do that) or it just looks like the site is still under construction or unfinished. I look forward to that update.
Thanks mate.
Thanks very much Basilis, I feel kind of silly now that I know what had to be done but I tried looking everywhere but couldn’t see the snwer. Thanks so much for your quick solution.
Wow thanks Mike, I went through every other page comparing everything and I can’t believe I missed that. Thanks very much Mike.
Hi Victoria,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I added that code into the Quick Css and it changed the white bar to grey. On every other page that white bar (or any section like that bar) does not exist, i just want to remove it completely rather than modify it.I’m not even sure what that container is called within any settings, if I remove the layerslider it still remains, I would have been happy to sacrifice the layerslider if that made a difference but no luck there.
Hi Victoria,
Thanks very much for your help, I upgraded my php to 7.2 and it fixed the problem immediately. Thanks very much
