For anyone who has this problem. I did a custom main menu link of # and that would trigger the dropdown. I created a page for the main menu and put the sub-levels under that and it worked for me. YMMV.
Dang. And layer slider does exactly what I need it to do. Would the people who wrote it help since it came with 3rd party software?
I’ll have multiple widgets in the header area will this work? I assume I’m going to need to hide them for mobile viewing.
Also, the widgets need to be right-aligned.
The text in the widgets (email, and phone seem to loose their links when I position them relative. Any idea how to fix that also?
It’s not live or on a server available to the public. It’s on my local machine.

Follow up: I have created a custom child theme and a custom template based on page.php. I only want the sidebar to show up on those pages is that possible?
I don’t have or want a mega menu. I don’t even see how to get to the first image you pasted above. I am using a child theme if that matters.
