OK I see now that I wasn’t aware that you had to select all variation properties to get it to change. Normally you’d expect the image to change when changing either one of the variation properties, which is what I see on some other themes that I tested. I don’t suppose that this behavior is something that can be changed?

So, is this the level of commitment I can expect from your support, or will someone actually help me with the problem???
