For these requirements, plugins may have to suffice. There are so many options available you would ideally have to just test them to see which one 1) Is compatible with the theme. and 2) Suits your requirements.

There is no direct code. One way to go about doing this is to use your browser to inspect the social icon element and then past that code into the widget area. You may still have to do some minor styling after that point, but this method should get you what you need.

Was the spacing based on css? Did you use a child theme? If you didn’t use a child theme and the css wasn’t retained the only option may be to just re-do it.
