Wow – 200 lines of CSS… I’ll move it into my child theme.
I didn’t see Kriesi’s explanation – where is that please? I can’t see anything in the changelog.
And are there any implications / potential problems with re-including the combo widget?
Site has been running 7.1 for the past few months, certainly over the past 2 weeks when the warnings happened.
May 14, 2018 at 7:00 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #956608Sorry for the delay but I have been away for most of last week.
Has someone changed or fixed something on http://www.jacksgallery.co.uk? Because I’ve just altered Disable Template Builder Elements to “Load only used elements” – and now the home page displays correctly. I have not altered anything on that website since my post #953358, 6 days ago (as mentioned, I have been away and not worked on this issue until today).
What’s changed? Why is this now working?
Sorry for the delay but I was away most of last week.
I have added the code in @Ismael’s reply #953101 but the Combo Widget is still not working as it did before 4.3. See this post.
In case anyone has forgotten, this post shows how the Combo Widget should display.
In fact adding @Ismael’s latest code suggestion displays the widget twice for some reason. See here.
Can you please just ask the developers to reinstate the Combo Widget in the upcoming 4.4 release, so that it works as it used to?
And no-one has explained why it was removed in the first place… :-(
May 8, 2018 at 1:13 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #953358@Ismael – please review the previous posts in this thread. The site with the problem now is different to my first post. Your suggestion about having 2 enfold directories solved the problem on https://www.americanroadtrips.net. The continuation of this issue is now with another domain, http://www.jacksgallery.co.uk. There are 2 sites, www and dev, of this as well. The www site is set to “Always load all elements”. If you login (details provided earlier) and alter it to “Load only used elements” and refresh the home page you will see that the Headline Rotator and Easy Slider are no longer displayed. This is the problem.
Please note the request above that this is a live e-commerce site and if you make the change to Disable Template Builder Elements to see the problem PLEASE alter the setting back as soon as possible so that the home page displays correctly.
(NB. Initially both the www and dev sites displayed this behaviour but for some reason the dev site ‘fixed’ itself. No idea why.)

May 4, 2018 at 2:30 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #951689I updated the theme via Updates, not via FTP. I have checked the directories you reference and there are no duplicated files.
May 3, 2018 at 1:20 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #950747For some reason the dev site is now working. However the www version still has the problem. I’ve created a user for you to login and check this. Site is running 4.3.1.
This is a live e-commerce site. If you make the change to Disable Template Builder Elements to see the problem PLEASE alter the setting back as soon as possible so that the home page displays correctly.
This problem has not been fixed in 4.3.1 – I’ve just upgraded 3 sites and the issue is still there on all of them.
@Ismael – I cannot upgrade one other site to 4.3.1 because of the problems caused by 4.3 removing the Combo Widget, which have not been resolved so far by your suggestions in this thread: – https://kriesi.at/support/topic/v-4-3-removed-deprecated-avia-combo-widget/I have deactivated the Autoptimize plugin that caches, and disabled the compression in Enfold > Performance, plus left all of the other elements in Performance ‘off’.
Makes no difference. The Combo Widget still doesn’t display as it did in 4.2.6 and before. I also tried deactivating all plugins to see if there was a conflict somewhere, but again no difference.
Why has this not been fixed in 4.3.1? There is no mention of it in the Changelog.
May 2, 2018 at 4:51 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #950143@Ismael – I’ve just updated another 2 client sites (www and dev versions) to Enfold 4.3 and set both to “Load only used elements”.
Headline Rotator and Easy Slider are no longer displayed on both. Both sites only have an enfold and enfold-child directory in wp-content\themes (plus twentyfifteen).
Both sites are HTTP, not HTTPS. I’ve left the dev site home page showing the ‘missing’ elements. Site address in private. I’ve had to switch the www site back to load all elements.
May 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #949525That appears to be the problem. Having deleted the enfold-old directory, the “only used elements” function now works. Thanks.
Yes, it is now active – but it’s behaviour has changed. It’s no longer displayed as tabs in 4.3.
Look at the combo widget on this post. This is Enfold 4.2.6.
Now look at the widget on 4.3: this post.
Check the code in Chrome Dev Tools. After <section id=”avia_combo_widget-3″… there is a <div class=-“tabcontainer border_tabs top_tab tab_initial_open tab_initial_open__1″ on both, but then 4.3 is missing the next <div class=”tab_titles”> that is in 4.2.6. I guess this is what makes it display as tabs?
How can I get 4.3 to display as it did in 4.2.6?
And what have the devs said about why they removed it? Can’t we just have it back as it was?
April 29, 2018 at 3:22 pm in reply to: New Disable Template Builder Elements function not working #948653@Victoria – the dev site on normal HTTP is OK. It is the www site on HTTPS that has the problem but you need to login and change the Performance setting from its current setting of “Always load all elements” to “Load only used elements” then refresh / clear cache the home page. The www site is set to “Always load all elements” because it is a ‘live’ site – so please alter the Performance setting back as quickly as you can after viewing the problem.
You can see the problem here.

On the www site, change Enfold > Performance > Disable Template Builder Elements to “Load only used elements”, refresh the home page and the Special Heading and Easy Slider are gone. Change it back to load all elements, refresh, elements re-appear.
The dev site is currently set to “Load only used elements” and the elements display correctly.
In private content. It’s a test site so do what you want but be aware that when I upload the code to functions.php and the 500 error occurs, it locks you out of the WP admin portal as well. So I’ve provided the FTP details as well. Please note the root directory comments. Please don’t alter the “proper” www site.
Copied from the forum originally, not email. Just tried it again, same result.
I use Dreamweaver for code edits and this shows up any syntax errors, but there aren’t any. Went thru code a character at a time and checked no hidden characters. I even tried copying the code block into a text editor, then into Dreamweaver, again just in case there were any hidden characters, but no change. Code block still kills the site.
Screenshot of functions.php
https://imgur.com/a/LC5QYnuAdding that code to functions.php (in a child theme) causes the site to crash.
Chrome says:
This page isn’t working dev.xyz.com is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500
Edge says:
HTTP 500 error That’s odd... the website can’t display this page The site may be under maintenance or could have a programming error.
Firefox just has a blank page, no error message.
Remove the code, site works again.
If I disable the Debugger that Screen Option goes away.
That’s not the issue.
If there is a Screen Option to switch the Enfold Shortcode Parser on or off, which there is, then it should work. It does not work.
If I ‘switch off’ Yoast SEO then that box no longer appears on a Page.
If I switch off the Parser, the box is still displayed. If I then look at another page, the tick in Screen Options has been re-applied by Enfold. It’s a bug.
That did it, thanks. Look forward to a ‘proper’ fix!
Thanks, that removes the image but has the effect of allowing all the columns to shift left so that they no longer appear under the correct column title.
See here: https://imgur.com/a/4DKER
Is it possible to either remove the Image column completely, so everything shifts left together (preferred option), or to insert some padding when the thumbnail is not shown so all other columns remain aligned?
Login details in private. I’ve set this up on the dev/test site rather than our ‘live’ site. Problem is the same on that.
All that zero setting does is to stop the default WP thumbnails being created.
It appears there’s a slight conflict / confusion with using functions.php with remove_image_size and the plugin Simple Image Sizes.
I use that plugin to alter the default Enfold sizes for a couple of images. When it’s active, the remove_image_size instructions are ignored and the images are still created.
If I deactivate the plugin then the function instructions work, and the specified images are not created – but then I have no ability to alter the Enfold image sizes to what I want.
The plugin allows me to ‘delete’ each image size, such as entry_with_sidebar. But if I delete the sizes I don’t want, Enfold just adds them back in when I try to save the new settings.
To get the desired result, you need the necessary remove_image_size instructions in functions.php and then via the plugin, go and delete the sizes not needed in Settings > Media, then save – and they now stay deleted, and are not created on a new upload.
Case closed. I hope… :-)
Sorry, my title is not worded very well and is confusing.
I don’t want to remove the existing widget and portfolio images from the database.
remove_image_size should stop the specified image sizes from being created when a new image is uploaded. The function does do this for all the other image sizes specified, i.e. shop_thumbnail is not created.
But the widget and portfolio sizes are still being created when the function should stop this, but it’s not working.
December 13, 2017 at 2:50 pm in reply to: How to add rel=”noopener noreferrer” to image links? #888370@Basilis – did you not read the link in the OP for the “known vulnerability”? That explains why WordPress has started adding the rel code by default to links containing target=”_blank” – it is as a precaution against reverse tabnabbing.
More here: https://mathiasbynens.github.io/rel-noopener/ and https://www.tinymce.com/docs/configure/content-filtering/#allow_unsafe_link_target
So the rel code is a security measure implemented by WordPress. If a user wants to disable the new setting, they can override it in functions.php but WP states “It is not recommended.” See here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/remove-rel-noopener-noreferrer-in-wordpress-4-7-4/
How can I add this code to Image elements?
Can we have a definitive statement from Kriesi please on the compatibility of Enfold 4.2 with WordPress 4.9(.1)?
I have seen various posts on the forum from users saying 4.9 broke Enfold in various ways (and that they presumably had to revert back to WP 4.8.3).
A Moderator replied to a question, acknowledging this, saying the developers were working on fixes. https://kriesi.at/support/topic/wordpress-4-9-compatible/#post-882095
Now @Victoria says the next Enfold update won’t be until January. By which time if we don’t update WP it’s likely we’ll all be a few further minor WP updates behind. So possibly open to vulnerabilities. :-(
Some clarity, please… what do we users do? The sites I manage are all on 4.8.3 – do I update WP now or not?
Just FYI for anyone interested but WP Thumbnail Slider might look good but – and I find this incredible – you can only have one instance of a slider on a website. Yes, just one. The plugin developer suggested to someone enquiring about this restriction that the solution was, given the software was open source, “if you need more than one slider in one website you need to customize this plugin”. In other words, the plugin is next to useless.
Digging around I found Smart Slider 3 which does have thumbnails and installed it, and it looks very good and is relatively easy to setup.
August 14, 2017 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Responsive layout messed up between between 990px and 768px #838830That didn’t work but in trying to debug why, I found the problem. Between 990px and 768px the theme sets this CSS:
@media only screen and (max-width: 989px) and (min-width: 768px) { .responsive.html_mobile_menu_tablet.html_header_top.html_header_sticky #top #wrap_all #main { padding-top: 88px; }}
which is not a large enough padding; increasing it to 115px fixes the problem.
Given this is default theme behaviour I’d argue this could be a bug that should be reported to the dev team for investigation.
@Steffen – no idea why the burger menu is on the left, it’s always displayed to the right, at all responsive screen sizes, on all the sites I’ve modified for the wider ‘trigger’ point (when I’ve got it working how I want it that is, but I never had a left-aligned issue).
As a humble user I think you’ll need to wait for a moderator to help you. They’ll need to see the site however so reply with the domain so they can have a look at it live.
@Steffen – see this thread. It should help but good luck – it’s not a trivial change, it’s a real pain. I’ve just had to do it on another Enfold site and the solution I posted at the end of that thread, whilst the main elements are similar, had to be customised again to make it work.
