It seems to be a problem in conjunction with the custom css. The customisation is to have a narrow header and to not have it shrink as you scroll down. If I remove this CSS code, the menu works fine.

Thank you very much for looking into this for me. As it turns out, the cache on the server needed to be cleared. Since my supervisor did so, there have been no further problems.Sorry to have wasted your time.
