The background-color no is not working. If you want to have not background, you can do it as

background-color: none or background-color: transparent

That is because of the content, but also if we add a height to it, there might be some issues of the text to be croped.
Try use the following

.avia-slider-testimonials .avia-testimonial-content {
min-height: 50px;
}

and try allocate the number to be correct, based on your own text.

You have to move the file inside the enfold-child folder, so it will not get modified.
It seems strange that it did not worked, how have you tested it / debuged it?
