Problems with drop down menu on smaller screens

I have Enfold installed as theme in several websites (all paid for individually), and in one of them the mobile menu works (enfold version 4.2) and in the others it does not (version 4.1.2). (By the way, how come version 4.2 seems to be older than 4.1.2? I don’t dare to update the one with version 4.2, in case the drop down menu stops working on the mobile menu.)
So I have set the new menus to work on “click” in the mobile/burger menu settings, and they still don’t work. I have always started my top menu title with a #, followed by a drop down menu, in order to have a title on the menu list and a series of items in the drop down people could click to navigate (perhaps this is not very orthodox but it has always worked until no). Now, the drop down menu simply stops with the titles in the #. I have tries to turn one of the #’s into a mega menu, instead of a personalized link (#) but still no show on mobiles.
