It seems many have the same issue of Instagram “returned invalid data” but I have no idea how to fix it and it’s been like this for a few months now. :( I have the latest update. I’m not that technical savvy but have tried everything that I know how. Any suggestions as to why this doesn’t work when it did previously – it just stopped working and I didn’t change anything.
April 27, 2018 at 6:09 pm #948069I switched to the free version of this plugin… it’s easy to use, free, and look great:
( I have no affiliation with the plugin, just trying to help a fellow Enfold community user in need!)
April 29, 2018 at 9:10 am #948582Hi sdiverde,
Can you please remove the widget and recreate it?
Best regards,
VictoriaApril 29, 2018 at 12:06 pm #948609Thank you. I have done that previously (a few times) and it didn’t help. But I will try it again and see if it does the trick. And by removing it and recreating it you mean just taking it out (deleting) and putting it back correct?
April 29, 2018 at 5:01 pm #948663As an aside….
After the big Facebook scandal, Instagram now requires an API so sites can no longer “scrape” Instafeeds and republish them… I don’t think the current widget will work reliably until an Instagram login is added to it. The above plugin (and other Instafeed plugins) all require login first to your Instagram account.
April 30, 2018 at 1:57 am #948753Interesting. It actually didn’t work before the FB thing but I did notice after deleting and redoing it now as mentioned above that it now just doesn’t load and says “follow me” without the original error code “instagram returned invalid”. So maybe it would of worked…but now doesn’t because of what you say. But then why would FB work? So would that have to do with Enfold supplying an API or Instagram widget separately — even though this widget is all in the “enfold theme” I know this sounds confusing but it’s the only way I can explain. Thank you for your help!
April 30, 2018 at 2:15 am #948754Good question… I use the Facebook Jetpack widget and it does seem to work… shh, don’t tell Facebook! ;)
May 1, 2018 at 7:01 am #949387Hi,
@sdiverde: The site is running on a very old version of the theme, 3.7.1. It still contains the old instagram endpoints which is why the widget is not working or returning an invalid data. Please upgrade to version 4.3. You may need to reconfigure the theme options again. Please update the theme regularly.Best regards,
IsmaelMay 1, 2018 at 1:04 pm #949514Thanks Ismael! How come it tells me my theme is all up to date on WordPress? I have it on automatic update? Where do you check the version of the theme that is running?
May 3, 2018 at 5:43 am #950463Hi sdiverde,
Not all server environments are compatible with the automatic updates unfortunately, so you might need to update manually. You can check the version of the theme you are running under Appearance->Themes, then click then active theme and it will display the version there.
If you need to know the current theme version then you can check that on the Themeforest page or in the changelog.
Best regards,
RikardMay 3, 2018 at 2:15 pm #950785Okay – so I checked via the “appearance” and it does say I am running 3.7.1 — however when I manually hit the tab to check for updates it then takes me to the plug in page and tells me my theme is up-to-date. Which is why I thought I was running the latest theme. I also got an email from enviro – w/a new update yesterday. I downloaded the file but not sure how to update the theme since it doesnt’ pick it up in wordpress. Is there instructions that I can find somewhere (don’t laugh – I new to all of this :) )
Thank you for your help!
May 4, 2018 at 7:20 am #951384Hi sdiverde,
Can you try to update via ftp, here is a video to show how it’s done https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/portfolio-item/update-theme-files-with-ftp/
Also I would suggest doing in the following steps instructed here: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/how-to-update-with-ftp-enfold-version-4-2-6-to-4-3-1/#post-950829
Hope this helps.Best regards,
NikkoMay 4, 2018 at 2:33 pm #951691The video is the not same as my wordpress (I use .org not .com) so I don’t have those options that I see there. Why wouldn’t wordpress show the updated version of the theme. When I manually click on it it says it’s all up to date but is not? Is there no file yet updated in the wordpress platform/files to update? I’m confused why it doesn’t show up there to make this a lot easier. Also I’m ruining 3.7.1. and that mentions the child theme in the second suggestion.
May 7, 2018 at 6:15 am #952499Hi sdiverde,
Please try this plugin to clear WordPress transients if you do not receive auto updates and make sure your API key is correct: https://wordpress.org/plugins/artiss-transient-cleaner/
Another issue might be caused by the server environment not able to make use of the feature provided by themeforest. If that doesn’t work, then ftp update is the workaround we suggest.
As for the 2nd link, we suggest using child themes especially if there are some file modifications that needed on your site which is not the default of Enfold, but if you don’t do any tweak or modification on the Enfold theme files (the .php files) then child theme isn’t needed. If you can’t access ftp and didn’t have any modification on the php files of the Enfold theme, then I think what you can do is to download the latest version of Enfold from themeforest extract the zip file, switch the theme to a default wordpress theme such as twentyseventeen, delete the Enfold theme then upload enfold.zip from the extracted folder, install and activate the theme.
Hope this helps :)Best regards,
NikkoMay 31, 2018 at 6:27 pm #964891Okay – so I’ve spoken with my hosting company – SiteGround. They do not see any issue from there end – mainly because no error comes up. It just says I have the latest update. They think it’s theme issue. I have not done the ftp mainly because I’m afraid I’m going to screw something up. Also when I download the latest update enfold 4.4 file – it unzips it. Where I can get an unzipped file for this to work if I decide to the ftp route through hiring someone to do it for me? Although I wish I could do it myself.
June 1, 2018 at 2:53 pm #965392Hi sdiverde,
You can hire someone or you can follow this video which shows step by step how it is done:

NikkoJune 4, 2018 at 6:42 pm #966716Hi Nikko,
Okay, so I’ve been on multiple times with site ground (my server) chat support. I’ve connected to FTP and transferred the file over to the remote site. Nothing happened and there were multiple files that failed and about 300+ successful transfers. In the meantime, it was still the same. no update. Then today I went back on with chat support. They suggested I do a the entire themeforest.zip file and transfer. I did that. My site came up fatal error. and then they transferred me to a advanced ticket. They told me the following info: Your [url]http://staceydiverde.com/wp-admin[/url Dashboard is not working, because the enfold theme is broken:
Code:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare av_countdown_events_fallback() (previously declared in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php:16) in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php on line 8As you can see the /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown.php script tries to redeclare the av_countdown_events_fallback() function, which is already declared in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-templatebuilder/avia-shortcodes/events_countdown/events_countdown.php
In this case you will have to get in touch with your theme’s vendor/developer so they can provide you with fix for the theme.
What we, as your hosting provider can do for you in this case is to switch your website’s theme to default one so your website can work, using the WP CLI tool:
https://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/wp-cli.htmI went further and switched your website’s theme to twentyseventeen so your website and its Dashboard can be accessed now.

now my site is totally messed up and I called them. they said that you need to provide me with the fixes for the correct theme update. they said there are files missing. Please HELP!!! Is there a number I can call instead of using this box. BTW that video you sent me Is blurring and hard to read. Half it is — is using wordpress.com features and I use wordpress.org for updating. the ftp i was able to figure out but it didnt’ work. anyhow, please advise. thanksJune 4, 2018 at 7:08 pm #966732I see you just sent me a theme update via email. Do I download all files & documentation. wordpress file only. or what?
June 4, 2018 at 7:48 pm #966753Okay, so I now downloaded the entire files today. Called Siteground and they had me upload to the theme folder and activate it in wordpress….. now I get this error when you go to my site. Please help
Warning: require(php/inc-autoconfig.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/staceydi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/enfold/framework/avia_framework.php on line 39

June 5, 2018 at 3:17 am #966939FYI – I’ve reinstalled the theme on wordpress instead of ftp where updating was not working and deleted the old theme (first). My site is back up. Not all my widgets are back so I will have to reset that in the footer. I will look at the new update changes and hopefully this also solves my original instagram once I get that back up and running.
June 5, 2018 at 8:02 am #967033Hi sdiverde,
Glad that it’s working fine now.
If the instagram issue still persists, please give us temporary admin access as well as ftp access, so we can try to debug and check further.
You can post the access credentials in private content, so it’s only visible to the moderators.Best regards,
NikkoMarch 19, 2021 at 5:24 pm #1289247I’m running the latest version of Enfold and i still cannot get my instagram to load. I also tried Smash Balloon and for some reason it says I don’t have a business account but I do on both FB & IG. I also don’t love how the privacy around using that plug-in anyhow but I tried and still does not work.

NikkoMarch 24, 2021 at 2:23 pm #1290128This reply has been marked as private.March 27, 2021 at 6:57 am #1290693Hi sdiverde,
We apologize for the delayed response and thanks for giving us admin access.
Enfold Instagram Widget does not work on your site since Instagram is now blocking widgets that use web scraping to get photo feeds and require using their API.
As of the moment, the best plugin that uses Instagram API is Smash Balloon Instagram Feed, with regards to your issue “instagram business profiles” I looked into their docs and found this: https://smashballoon.com/doc/instagram-business-profiles/
I hope it will help resolve your issue.
If you don’t like the plugin, please try other plugins for instagram photo feed.Best regards,
