I have speed problems with my first Enfold website that, at the moment, is still under a subfolder and not accessible for the public (it is not ready yet and it will replace the old one that is not being realized with WordPress and has no speed issue). Strangely enough, sometimes the problem disappears but lately the speed is awfully bad. I have another WordPress Website with the same provider and has no issues. Since we are in Germany, we are obliged to save the fonts locally, but I don’t think this is the problem. I installed Real Media Library but the issue was before I installed it. We have really few plugins installed. I tried with cache and everything but nothing changes. I would be incredibly grateful if you could have a look. In case the website works normally just in the time you are checking it, try later again… Thanks (I send you the login data in a private message)

    Hey eddyvdt,

Thanks for the login details. Does your site have a URL as well?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi,

    Thank you for the info.

The site seems to be loading fine on our end. How do you test the site’s speed? We are not able to run a test using any page speed tool because the site is not accessible publicly. Have you done any speed optimization to the site yet? If you haven’t, you might want to check the following articles.

Hello, I did already the optimization but it didn’t bring any result. Tried different settings with cache. Took pictures away to see if those were causing the problem: no difference. Absolutely nothing. It stays as it is. It takes always few seconds before the pages respond and get opened. I tested the website also with our terminal server that it is seated in another city far away from us and has 1 GB speed internet connection and the website shows the same problem. I wonder if you opened the website maybe in one of those moments where the website seems to go faster (but it lasts very short and in the last three days it didn’t happen anymore).

PS: Just now 10:18 German Time the website is going faster and with normal speed. Is it possible that the problem has nothing to do with the website but whit the hosting performance?

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. If the performance of the site goes up and down without any apparent reason, then I would think that the hosting solution is the likely problem.

Can it be that the speed sometimes is compromised because 1) the new website is not accessible publicly yet 2) the new website is saved and running in a subfolder of the “old” website that is still online?

    Hi,

We can’t really answer those questions unfortunately, it would probably be better if you directed those questions to your hosting provider. They should be able to clarify that for you.

Update: I had the feeling that the database was the problem. I found some articles about Ionos having databases in different servers than webspace and if you have bad luck, you get your database in the wrong one. The trick is creating a new database and hoping you get a better connection. I optimized and cleaned my MySQL database (i had many tables from mailpoet although I had uninstalled it) and I exported it. I created a new Mariadb (as suggested by Ionos) and I imported the old MYSQL database. I connected the website with the new database and… the problem seems to be gone. I hope it is not just a coincidence and that the website doesn’t start again to go slowly. I will let you know in the next days. I think it could be interesting for other Ionos users.
