Hi,
recently I had a weird situation with enFold child. Let me explain everything.Working with enfold and enfold child. Enfold is updated on the latest version (5.2.1). After the update I worked on the website for almost a day (10-12 hours) working on the child theme. It’s good to mention that child theme has only a custom font file and nothing else like php code. Everything was setup from the dashboard -> Enfold child, like custom css and different options that you are giving with your theme.
So after 10-12 hour the website stopped working, I couldn’t login into dashboard. Spoke with my hosting provider and he said that everything looks fine except that we hit the limit of php workers which is normally never happened. None of their clients ever hit the limit, if there is not a situation like DDdS attack. So provider thought that the issue was about multiple requests etc. I have php code with the plugin snippets but we disabled after the first time that the website get down
I disabled every plugin and try to open everything one by one and see which one causes the issue but no luck. I disabled the child theme and active the normal enfold. With the normal enfold everything was almost fine, full access to the front end and to the dashboard. The weird thing is when I was trying to active the child theme again, the site was going down, no access at all. I tried the couple of times and I realised that was the issue, so I moved all of my settings to the main enfold.
Do you have in your mind what could cause the issue ?
Should I download and add again the enfold child theme ?
What do you suggest ?Note: In a few day we are about to go live and people will start making orders so we don’t want anything like that to happen.

Please send us a temporary WordPress admin login and login URL so that we can have a closer look. You can post the details in the Private Content section of your reply. Also, do you have server error logs which we can look at?

RikardFYI: We tried to upload a video today, and we had the same issue for a little bit of time.
We deleted immediately and seems to be okay now. Although there is sometimes that the site goes really slow.
One of my assumptions is that somewhere inside the enfold child theme (dashboard enfold option page) that link was existing and asking for that video and maybe that’s why when adding the enfold child the site was crashing. I’m not sure I just give ideas.

RikardYes but we still have some concerns about that. And what about the child theme.. Should we add it back or if we have the the snippet plug in and put all of the code there, we are fine ?

Thanks for that. I can’t check the content of your child theme though, since Appearance->Theme editor is turned off on your installation. Please enable that, or share FTP login details with us as well.

Thanks for that. Your child theme looks empty though, I can’t see that you have added any code yourself? Are we allowed to activate it in order to see the actual problem?

Although the child theme I thought that should have only the files or code that we wanna add. Is that correct or should has a copy from everything ? Like wp-content folder, wp-admin etc?
Yes you are allow but please write a message here when you start and when you finish. I would suggest to install the child theme from the beginning with the way you know is correct.
Note: The child theme doesn’t have any custom code inside or anything else.. so you can delete it and added again.

Thanks for that. Your site seems to lock up entirely when the child theme is active, but I have no idea why unfortunately, since there is no code actually added to it. Did you try to download a clean child theme and use that instead? Also, do you have server error logs which you can share with us?

So my hosting provider told me that there is not issues in the logs. Everything looks fine from yesterday.

Ok, but your site becomes more or less unresponsive on the front end when the child theme is activated. I can’t see any error messages on the front end, so if there are no server errors either, then we don’t have anything to go by really.

Yes it become less responsive cause all of the options are on the main theme.

What options are different? If you are worried about that, then you can import the parent theme setting under Enfold->Import/Export.

If you can find a problem with it, then please let us know what it is. It’s a child theme with no code added, and it hasn’t been touched since it was published years ago. I’ve used it myself for years without any problems, and I’ve checked it just now, there’s still no problem with it on my test sites. You are the only one reporting this problem, so that means it’s likely that the problem is local to your site. You could create your own child theme though, if you want to avoid this potential problem.

RikardI never said that your product has issues in general and I’m not trying to just complain. I’m just trying to find a solution.
In the worst case scenario, do you think if I’ll work without any child theme that would be an issue for future theme updates ?
I don’t have to use custom code inside the files, cause I’m using plugin for that reason.

No I understand that, and I’m trying to come up with solutions as well. If you think that the child theme might be have a problem, then the solution would be to test with something you have created yourself. If the problem still happens after that, then we can remove one potential source of this problem.
If you don’t intend to override any theme files, then you can do without a child theme. But you never know what the future will bring, so having the option to use a child theme would be preferable of course.
