Hi! I’m building a site in a staging area that was set up for me with an old enfold theme (4.5.4). I purchased the new theme and would like to update my staging site but am not sure how and don’t want to lose the work I’ve already done. I am using a child theme. Can someone walk me through how to do this?

I can see the theme forest username and API key are my client’s information. Do I simply put in my details here? Or is there more to it?

    Thanks!

Sorry, it is not clear to me what I need to do. I need to update the theme, do I need to do this via FTP? Will I lose all the edits I’ve made? I am using a child theme. I am not technical, I need a little more guidance please. Also, the current theme was installed by someone else so I need to enter in my credentials but I don’t want to override the changes that have already been done. Please help and thanks!

    Hi julhobart,

It seems like the version of Enfold on your site is still using the old API (username and API key) which envato has already deprecated therefore you can’t update it with the usual method.
As for edits, if tweaks are made on the child theme then it’s safe to say that nothing will be lost since it is only the parent theme (Enfold) that is overwritten.

To update your site to the latest version, please backup your site first:
    – Site Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-wordpress-site/
    – Theme Settings Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-theme-settings/

    Then do the following steps:
    1. Login to ThemeForest and download the Enfold theme, right-click over the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it.
    2. It should generate a new folder, open it and look for the enfold folder
    3. Right-click the enfold folder then zip it, here’s a tutorial on how to create a zip file in windows: https://www.howtogeek.com/668409/how-to-zip-and-unzip-files-on-windows-10/ (this should create enfold.zip
    4. Log in to WordPress as and Admin.
    5. Install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site in Maintenance mode.
    6. Go to Appearance > Themes, switch to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty then delete Enfold.
    7. Click on the ADD NEW button.
    8. Click on the UPLOAD THEME button.
    9. Click BROWSE and choose enfold.zip file
    10. Click the INSTALL NOW button and switch to Enfold or your child theme.
    11. Remove the maintenance mode then deactivate and remove the maintenance plugin.

Register the theme by following the instructions in https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Once this is done, the next time you update, you’ll only need to go to Enfold > Theme Updates and click on the Update button.

    Best regards,
    Nikko
