I am helping an old client and trying to update their website from 4.4.1 to the latest version as there was an error, something to do with layerslider.

I am just wondering how do i tell if the version i am downloading from Themeforest is the most up to date version if i am getting it from my downloads section, i.e where i originally i downloaded it from years ago.

    thanks

    Hi mattamusic,

    Please try follow the procedure:

    Backup your site:
    – Site Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-wordpress-site/
    – Theme Settings Backup: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/backup-theme-settings/

    Then do the following steps:
    1. Login to ThemeForest and download the Enfold theme, right-click over the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it.
    2. It should generate a new folder, open it and look for the enfold folder
    3. Right-click the enfold folder then zip it, here’s a tutorial on how to create a zip file in windows: https://www.howtogeek.com/668409/how-to-zip-and-unzip-files-on-windows-10/ (this should create enfold.zip
    4. Log in to WordPress as and Admin.
    5. Install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site in Maintenance mode.
    6. Go to Appearance > Themes, switch to a default WordPress theme like TwentyTwenty then delete Enfold.
    7. Click on the ADD NEW button.
    8. Click on the UPLOAD THEME button.
    9. Click BROWSE and choose enfold.zip file
    10. Click the INSTALL NOW button and switch to Enfold or your child theme.
    11. Remove the maintenance mode then deactivate and remove the maintenance plugin.

Register the theme by following the instructions in https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Once this is done, the next time you update, you’ll only need to go to Enfold > Theme Updates and click on the Update button.

    Best regards,
    Nikko

    Hi Nikko,

Thanks for the reply, will this not delete the current settings my client has as they are not using a child theme?

The version they currently have (4.4.1) seems to be a bit unstable and I just simply want to update the theme, which I used to be able to do in the Enfold settings. Has this function been discontinued now?

    thanks

    Hi mattamusic,

It shouldn’t affect your Enfold settings as it is stored in the database, however, we would always suggest having a backup always.
Also, you can try to setup a staging site and do the update there first in order to find out if things will most likely to go smoothly, you can follow this tutorial in setting up a staging site: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/
As for updating the theme in the Enfold > Theme Updates, you could say it’s discontinued but to be accurate it’s envato/themeforest that discontinued the use of API keys and uses token instead, so once you update the theme to the latest version, register your theme and follow the instructions in: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/ then you should be able to use Theme Updates again.

    Best regards,
    Nikko
