Kriesi,
We installed your “Angular” theme in 2013, and have been VERY HAPPY with it ever since! However, it looks like there are some things coming in the WordPress ‘world’ that might ‘break’ it (we already have the “Classic Editor” plugin installed for compatibility with the new Block Editor).
We are running WP 5.4.2 with PHP 7.2 right now, and things seems to be okay. But, since we are being hosted on WPEngine, and they regularly ‘force’ an update to a new WordPress core—and less frequently to the latest PHP—are you familiar with the compatibility of Angular with the latest 5.5 version, or any later versions than what we have right now (5.4.2)?
I think I remember that Automatic said that they would support the Classic Editor until 2022, but even if they do, a future core update might ‘break’ the Angular theme. Do you have any idea—your best ‘guesstimate’—what that might be, at this point?
An idea would be for us (or your developers) to add code to the Angular theme (that just might be from your Enfold theme), that would make it more compatible for the future? [ We have a HUGE site, and it would take many months to recreate ].
Another idea would be to ‘upgrade’ to your Enfold theme. (By viewing our site, would you have an idea of how well Enfold would keep our current ‘look’ and functionality?)

Thank you, ahead of time, for your efforts on this!

Visual Impact SystemsNovember 5, 2020 at 12:44 am #1258484Hey mbesh,
The Angular has been deprecated and will no longer receive updates. It will not work with WordPress 5+ and higher versions of php. You can keep the website with lower versions of WordPress and php (of course, it’s not a recommended option) or switch to Enfold.
Here is a post by Kriesi for you:

Thank you very much for the quick response.
For our planning purposes, could you give us your professional opinion about what ‘issues’ we might come up against in taking our current Angular theme to Enfold? How “upwardly compatible” is Enfold with Angular? [ Note: Y’all have helped us, over the years, do a “little bit” of custom formatting that is in a few of the ‘core’ theme files ]:

Visual Impact SystemsNovember 5, 2020 at 5:45 pm #1258686Hi mbesh,
Well, the easiest way to find the issues is to set up the staging env and switch the theme to Enfold there and work on the issues that arise step by step. You might want to rebuild the pages anew to make them look more modern.

Yes, we have already set up a “development” environment (separate from our Staging site), that we plan to do just that. I was just wondering if there were some ‘blatant’ issues that we will experience right away.
Question: Do y’all have any idea when Enfold will be 5.5 compliant? PHP 7.3 compatible?

Visual Impact SystemsNovember 5, 2020 at 11:12 pm #1258753Hi mbesh,
Enfold is compatible with php7.3 and even php7.4. What do you mean by “when Enfold will be 5.5 compliant?”?
I am not aware of such blatant issues that you might face but I am here to help :)

Does Enfold work properly with the newest WordPress version (5.5.3)?
