GuestHi – I’m the admin for our neighborhood’s website. The guy that built it for us used your Enfold theme. I’m running into various issues (I’m not a total whiz with W Press), and I noticed that our version of Enfold is 3.0.6 which I just looked up and see that it’s 5 years old.
That being said, I have no way to update the theme. I’m guessing I need to buy a license. And if I do, and if I apply the latest version of the theme, do I risk breaking the site? Again I’m not real “tech-y”, so I get jittery about making changes like that. (One time I updated PHP and our site puked.)
Anyway, please let me know if buying the license is possible to get updates, and if updating from such an old version will be a seamless operation or if I should prepare for lots of hurdles.
Thank you,

Since the version you are currently running is very old, then it’s likely that you will run into some sort of problem. I will give you instructions on how to update though:
The update to 4.7.x has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
After you have updated then try to activate the Classic Editor in the main page of the theme options.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
You are likely running an old PHP version on the site as well, please make sure that it’s 7.1 or higher.
If you want to play things safe then I would recommend updating on a staging version of the site first.
Best regards,
Rikard -
