After updating WordPress Avia layout builder keeps loading and loading and none of the changes I make stick. I have tried updating the theme version via zip file but doesn’t fix the problem. Please help.

I have manually installed a newer version via the enfold.zip, however this has not affected my child theme, in fact it looks like it installed on the side of it, from what I read, it is supposed to overwrite the old file however this is not the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

A child theme will never be overwritten on updates, that is the whole point of using a child theme. What problems are you having with it exactly?

    Hello Rikard,

Thanks for the reply. Ever since I have updated the wordpress version, I have not been able to edit any posts on the website. The avia builder won’t load and with the normal builder, the changes won’t stick. I have researched this through this forum and came to the conclusion that I need to update the theme, but since it is an older version, this needs to be done manually which I have done, the file is installed but it did not update my child theme version. Can you help with this?

    Hi,

Yes, we can help you out with updating. If you want to try yourself then you can follow these instructions:

You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/

If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.

After you have updated then try to activate the Classic Editor in the main page of the theme options.

Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/

If you still want us to update for you then please post FTP login details in private as well, along with a verification that you have backups of the site in case something should go wrong.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi,

thanks for that, though I’m getting an error message on the login page so I can’t log in to WordPress:

The site is experiencing technical difficulties.

You could try to delete the whole theme folder and then upload the new version after that. If you need further help then please include FTP login details in private as well please.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, I get a 404 error now on the login page. I’m not sure why? Also, it looks like you are running Enfold?

    Best regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for that. What happens if you select to use the Classic Editor instead under the main page of the theme options?

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, I think I’m starting to understand the problem you are having now. You have customised a parent theme, and now you can’t update since it will overwrite your customisations? I can’t see exactly which version your customised theme is based on, but it looks old unfortunately. Is there a reason why you didn’t place your customisations in a child theme? I think the best way forward would be to move your customisations into a child theme, otherwise you will have this exact same problem each time you want to update the parent theme.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, though we can’t be responsible for any type of customisations done to a parent theme and then fix that for you once you want to update and/or install a child theme. My advice to you would be to copy the site to a staging site and then try to find all the customisations done to the current parent theme (if any), and move them all over to a child theme. After that you can update the parent theme without any problems.

Also, what happens if you update the PHP version on the site and activate the parent theme (4.5.7) which you have installed on the site? Does everything work as expected then? Since you likely have to experiment with the site a lot then a staging site would be the best approach before you attempt any changes on the live site.

    Best regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, I can see that the theme is running fine on your development server. The problem now I guess is to find out if your old theme has customisations to the parent files or not, do you know of any customisations done to them? If not then you can at least try to export the theme settings from the old version on the live site under Enfold->Import/Export, then import them on to the new version of the development server.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
