Hi,
I am having issue when updating posts in my website that contain pdf link.
But it is not limited to a button with pdf link though.
I’ve tried to create a text box, link or any other thing that is containing this text “.pdf”, and it will show 404 error when I do post update.
But if I change one of those character to another else, all is good.I saw in this post that you have done some patching thing in the OP website to fix that and will make it available in the next update.
The post was in March, and the latest update is in May.
I’ve already use the latest update of May, but still getting this issue. Is there any change or fix we can do?
Oh, and one more thing.
I tried to use URL Shortener for PDF link like mentioned in the linked post, and it works.
So that’s why I make conclusion, the post won’t update if it contain “.pdf”Thanks.
June 22, 2019 at 10:46 pm #1112655Hey plafonta,
Odd, I see that you are using a child theme do you have any custom files in the child theme such as header.php?
I also see that “Download Brochure” works with .pdf but “Download Inclusions” doesn’t.
Please include admin login in the Private Content area so we can investigate further, ftp access would also be nice.Best regards,
MikeJune 24, 2019 at 4:32 am #1112825Hi Mike,
Yes, I know, odd it is indeed.
Sorry, forgot to mention that I am using child theme here.
No, we don’t have that header.php in the child theme.Download Brochure works because the file is exists.
But not with Download Inclusion button, because somehow the media for those buttons is deleted.
And that’s why we want to change the link of that button to point to the right one.Got the 404 instead, even though nothing changed.
June 24, 2019 at 5:08 am #1112828Hi,
Thanks for the login, so if I understand correctly, the pdf for the “Download Inclusions” link doesn’t exist?
I took a look at your media library and indeed didn’t find the file.If I understand correctly you wish to change this link to a pdf that does exist, which pdf would that be?
Best regards,
MikeJune 24, 2019 at 5:34 am #1112830Hi,
You can try with any PDF media, including with PDF in another website, that is if you are able to open the option both of the button.
I could only change the PDF link using the Text section in the bottom. But still, it won’t get updated if I click the Update button.
I’ve tried to change to change using parent theme and old theme, it is showing another error instead.
The only working theme is using the default (Twenty Nineteen) theme.
June 24, 2019 at 5:44 am #1112833Hi,
I tried to change the link and got this error:/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)
a 404 on admin-ajax.php typically is due to either a security plugin or wrong file permissions.
Please ask your webhost why the server is giving a 404 on admin-ajax.php, they can see why in the server logsBest regards,
MikeJune 24, 2019 at 6:08 am #1112837Hi,
wp-admin/admin-ajax.php file already has 644 as it’s file permission.
But this won’t show error if you removed the “.pdf” text from the link in both button, you can try.
I’ve tried to remove it and update ran smoothly.June 25, 2019 at 2:11 am #1113050Hi,
Yes, we can reproduce the issue with the buttons. We will forward this thread to the dev team. For now, please enable the debug mode so that you can edit the shortcodes directly.

Thanks for the update.

IsmaelJune 25, 2019 at 2:55 am #1113080Hi,
Just for some additional notes.
This is not only happening on the button.
But also on, everything I guess, whether text object, image, anything, as long as it contains “.pdf”.June 26, 2019 at 4:35 am #1113446Hi,
Thanks for the update.
We have reported the issue to our @dev, but they can’t reproduce the issue. I can’t either. Have you tried updating the element while the plugins are disabled?
Best regards,
IsmaelJune 26, 2019 at 5:21 am #1113457Hi,
Tried to disable all existing plugin.
Opening the button with PDF link doesn’t showing it’s properties.
Updating the post also still gave 404.And I’ve also enabled the debug mode and able to directly change the link.
There, I just removed the “.pdf” from the button’s link and update post is going well.Any other idea what should be done?
June 26, 2019 at 5:54 am #1113467Hi,
When I take a look at theme folder, I have 2 enfold over there.
One is version 3.8 and the other is the latest, 4.5.7.
How do I find out which version is the child theme based on?And how do I change the child to use the v.4.5.7 version instead if it is still using the older version?
June 26, 2019 at 6:21 am #1113480Ah okay.
Sure enough I already using 4.5.7 as the parent theme.
Saw it in the theme options, theme update menu. So, anything else can be done?
June 26, 2019 at 6:33 am #1113485Another info.
Have activated debug mode of wordpress also.
But no error shown or logged.
It’s just, 404.June 26, 2019 at 7:15 pm #1113696Hi plafonta,
You need to remove the folder with the 3.8 version completely.

VictoriaJune 28, 2019 at 4:28 am #1114154Hi Victoria,
Tried removing the folders.
Still not able to update post with .pdf link.June 30, 2019 at 9:48 pm #1114714Hi,
I tried to create a pdf link in a code block element, but that also wouldn’t save.
But I could save on a post, please see link in the Private Content area.I also found that you can use links created with: https://www.shorturl.at/
I tested this with your page, please check.Best regards,
MikeJuly 1, 2019 at 12:56 am #1114736Hi,
So this is not happening on a new post right?
Is there anything I can check then on the existing post why is it not able to?Short URL, yes tried that.
I’ve mentioned in the first post.July 2, 2019 at 3:18 am #1114998Hi,
I tried to debug the post but I can’t find a reason for this, and it seems that creating a new page works well.
The dev team was not able to recreate the issue, so typically this would point to a plugin, but since it doesn’t happen every time it’s hard to say that is the case. When you disabled the plugins, did you also disable the Toolset plugin? Can you try to recreate the page without copy and paste or using the “templates” which may copy the error over.
Best regards,
MikeJuly 2, 2019 at 5:02 am #1115017Hi Mike,
I’ve tried to edit the post you just created (in private content), but it gives 404 too.
I’ve also tried to create a new one.
After setting up the link for button, I can’t edit it anymore.
It has just showing blank properties.
I too cannot save the post after using pdf link.- This reply was modified 5 years, 5 months ago by plafonta.
July 4, 2019 at 5:41 pm #1115852Hi,
Sorry for the late reply, can I try updating your site with a beta version that includes the latest fixes?Best regards,
MikeJuly 5, 2019 at 8:10 am #1115963Hi Mike,
Yes please.
Thank you.July 5, 2019 at 11:54 pm #1116105Hi,
Thank you for the FTP access, I was able to upload the beta version but it didn’t help even when I activated it over the child theme.
I then set everything back to the way it was.
I also checked your .htaccess which seems fine, and I checked an error log but it didn’t log this event.
Since the error occurs on basically a clean install, this seems to be pointing towards your server, please ask your webhost if your allowed to host pdf downloads, or if it needs to be turned on.Best regards,
