Hi. A past client needs to get their site up-to-date. The site has Enfold 3.8 and WP 5.2.1.
Any landmines I need to watch out for or best-ways to make this a smooth transition?
I’ve made incremental updates with other enfold theme clients and remember a little about what’s involved, but taking a 12-version leap might have issues I’m not aware of.
Thanks in advance.
markJune 14, 2019 at 7:40 am #1110232Hi Mark,
No landmines really but the update has to be done manually from that version, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to delete the whole theme folder, then replace it with the new version. Make sure that you have backups of the site before starting updating.
After you have updated then try to activate the Classic Editor in the main page of the theme options.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Also make sure that you are not running an outdated version of PHP, 5.6.2 is the minimum recommended version for running WordPress.
Best regards,

I had to completely delete the main Enfold Theme folder and then upload the latest version (the overwrite process did not work).
I also updated PHP to 7.3 and added the Classic Editor plugin before making the updates.thanks.

VictoriaJune 23, 2019 at 2:32 am #1112671Yes…. but wanted to share the tip about deleting the entire theme folder (thru FTP in my case), and uploading a ‘fresh’ copy.
