    Hi christinadams,

Thanks for the login details and sorry for the problem. I see that you are running a very old version there, what exactly happens when you update? Please try to be as specific as possible. Also, do you know which version of PHP you are running on the server?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hello, the PHP is version 7.2. When I try to update the Enfold theme through WordPress, I get an “invalid url” error. When I try to upload via FTP, the website will no longer display and I cannot access WordPress, instead a line of text displays saying something like “This site is experiencing a technical issue.” I get an automatic email from WordPress saying the following:

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with your theme, Enfold.

First, visit your website (http://www.iciinnovations.com/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (http://www.iciinnovations.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php) and check for any visible issues.

Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

If your site appears broken and you can’t access your dashboard normally, WordPress now has a special “recovery mode”. This lets you safely login to your dashboard and investigate further.

    http://www.iciinnovations.com/wp-login.php?action=enter_recovery_mode&rm_token=hwni8ztewMbIdwO0P9FmjR&rm_key=lNkUGSbdfGw58K2gjnufJU

To keep your site safe, this link will expire in 1 day. Don’t worry about that, though: a new link will be emailed to you if the error occurs again after it expires.

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 416 of the file /home/iciin108/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/functions.php. Error message: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘config-layerslider/config.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/alt/php72/usr/share/pear’)

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

The site is using a very old version of the theme, 3.5.2. You have to delete the current theme folder first before uploading the latest one. You may need to reconfigure some of the theme options again after the update because a lot has changed since. Don’t forget to create a backup or a restore point.

Please update the theme regularly to avoid this issue.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

When I delete the old enfold folder via FTP and then upload the new version, the site no longer works and I get the errors described above. What can I do to ensure a successful install of the new version?
I had auto-update of the theme installed on the site so I thought it was updating regularly.

    Thanks,
    C.

    Hey!

    Thanks for the update.

The site is still using version 3.5.2. Please upload the latest version inside the “themes-old” folder. We’ll check it again afterwards.

    Regards,
    Ismael

Well I tried it again and this time it worked. I think there was an issue with the upload stopping before it was completed the first two times for some reason… just noticed that in the FTP history. Third time is a charm I guess.

    Thanks
    C.
