You’re running a very old version of the theme you might want to update it. And it is better to add the event listener in Javascript than to use this code that gets stipped out.

My site also is running the latest versions of WP and the theme, and all plugins are up to date. I also have tried inserting the code in the Code Block, where it also gets stripped out.

The latest version is 4.5.5. Please upgrade the theme manually because the automatic update on that version is no longer valid.

You may need to reconfigure a few of the theme options after the upgrade. And regarding the initial issue, try to use the code block instead of the text block.
