Hi, I have the website truetilldeathmerch.com. No matter what I try I can’t get this Instagram widget to work on the sidebar. I think I have to somehow update to the latest version of Enfold but I’m not a techie and don’t know how, which is why I bought this theme in the first place, so I wouldn’t have to do anything backend. The button on the dashboard for the Theme Update doesn’t work. Is there extra steps besides updating to the latest version to get the IG widget to work? How do I get the latest version and is there a way to set it up so it updates automatically in the future?
Can someone please walk me through this step by step so I can fix this? Please don’t assume that I know any technical terms and really just make it very easy if you can, much obliged, thanks.
March 3, 2019 at 6:39 am #1073826Hey likegluelikecrew,
You will have to update to the latest version to get that working unfortunately. The update to 4.5 has to be done manually from the version you are running, please refer to my replies in this thread: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/enfold-4-5-theme-update-update-failed-download-failed-a-valid-url-was-not-pro/#post-1021541
You can either update manually via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update, or use a plugin to upload the theme zip file: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
If that doesn’t work then please try to completely delete the theme, then upload the new version as usual. Please make sure that you have backups of the site before you start doing anything.
Also please read this after you have updated: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/
Best regards,
RikardMarch 4, 2019 at 8:11 pm #1074497At first I downloaded the plug in and then tried to upload the zip file but I got an error saying the file was too big. Then I tried to ftp the Enfold folder with Filezilla. I followed these directions from the moderator Mike and it didn’t work.
Hi,
To manually update the theme via FTP, look for the “enfold” folder at /wp-content/themes/enfold/ and rename to “enfold-old” then upload the new version as the folder “enfold”
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.
Once you have cleared your browser cache and tested that your site is working correctly, you can delete the old folder “enfold-old”.
If for some reason you want to go back to the old version, simply remove the new folder and change the name of “enfold-old” back to “enfold”
If you would like help with this, Please open a new thread, and include your admin login and ftp login in the Private Content area, but as this is not your thread your login info will not be private if posted here.
Please post the link to your new thread here so I can quickly find it.Best regards,
MikeAfter I uploaded the new Enfold folder, the site wouldn’t work with the following error: This page isn’t working truetilldeathmerch.com is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500Also, when I downloaded the installable wordpress files only from Themeforest, they were listed as 4519990, not 4.5. Could this be the problem? Someone please help!
March 6, 2019 at 6:30 am #1075300Hi,
If you need help updating your site then please include admin WordPress and FTP login details in private along with a verification that you have backups of the site. The version you download from Themeforest is always the latest version, the number you are referring to has nothing to do with the version of the theme.
Best regards,
RikardMarch 6, 2019 at 5:18 pm #1075552Yes the site is backed up. Mike the moderator offered to help last week but he never got to it, thanks Rikard! Hopefully this update fixes the Instagram Widget problem. In the future, will the updates be available through the dashboard?
March 7, 2019 at 11:05 am #1075912Hi,
Thanks for that, I’m having problems updating your site as well unfortunately and I’m afraid that I will get the same problem as you when I activate the new version. I see that you are getting a notice about updating the PHP version on your dashboard. Do you know which version you are running now? I would recommend that you update it to 7.1 or higher.
Best regards,
Rikard -
