Hello Support Team! I’ve noticed recently that YouTube videos embedded as part of a color section module no longer play and throw an error:
Sample screenshot: https://snipboard.io/Bz17Ce.jpg
I’ve posted a link to a page this is happening on in the private content section (but I have a couple with the same treatment).
These pages have been functioning perfectly for years with no change to the code (or my browser settings) at all so I’m not sure what the issue is. Wondering if it happened after the last Enfold update? (these aren’t pages I usually check after the updates)
That said, I’ve done some debugging and found this. Sense it could be a cookie issue:
1. I’m using Chrome and across two different computers (iMac, MBPro), I get the error. Clear cache, cookies on browser AND through my website backend doesn’t help
2. When I change the cookie setting on my browser to block 3rd party cookies, everything works fine. See settings screenshot: https://snipboard.io/lgVjhJ.jpg
3. I’ve tried to access the page from other people’s computers in my household and they seem to be able to view it ok but most of their Cookie settings are set to: “Allow all cookies”. Strangely when I set “Allow all cookies” on either of my computers I get the same original playback error message (even when not logged in to WP-Admin.
4. If I open the page in an incognito window, it DOES work (no matter what the browser cookie settings are set to).
I’ve searched through your support forums and see other people have recently (and suddenly) experienced the same issue but none of the suggestions made seem to have resolved it. I’ve tried some of the same suggestions with no success.
I’m concerned this is happening to visitors of my site who believe they have their cookie settings set correctly and have similarly not changed them.
Any insight from your end? Please help!
January 25, 2021 at 11:08 am #1275213Hey dpriemer,
I can’t reproduce the problem you are describing on my end, the background video plays fine on the page you linked to. If it’s working in incognito browsers, then it’s likely due to caching. Please try to disable your caching plugin, and clear your local browser cache again.
The screenshots your posted are not loading, please try uploading them again to a different service, like Imgur for example.
Best regards,
RikardJanuary 25, 2021 at 3:00 pm #1275271Thanks for the reply Rikard! I’ve disabled the caching plugin but the problem remains.
I feel it’s some kind of cookie issue because when I change the cookie setting on my browser to block 3rd party cookies, everything works fine. See link to the error image and the cookie settings image: https://imgur.com/a/fUWurOg
Deleting cache and deleting all the site cookies (even after disabling the plugin) doesn’t solve the problem.
The odd thing is that:
2. This wasn’t happening for a LONG time even with the same browser settings.
Any other thoughts?
January 25, 2021 at 8:31 pm #1275338I too am getting this when a video is set as a color section background. Also, a new issue that wasn’t there before and only recently showed up without any changes. The same browser setting change resolves the issue. Definitely a cookie-related issue…whether due to a change with a browser, theme, or WordPress update.
January 29, 2021 at 4:19 am #1276212Update here Rikard: now the video is able to play even with the old cookie settings but after it loops for a few minutes I’m getting this new error message:
“Video Unavailable”. See https://imgur.com/VVWaPqm
Again, I’ve made no changes to the site, the web page, or the video. Everything is exactly the same as it was before.
A few debugging notes for you:
1. When I refresh the page, the video loads again and will play for a few minutes but will eventually error out.
2. The problem does NOT happen in Incognito mode
3. When I change the cookie settings from “Block third-party cookies in Incognito” to “Block third-party cookies” the problem goes away as before. This seems to be a 3rd party cookie issue with videos surfaced through the theme’s Color Section feature.
Any further insight on your end on how to resolve?

February 11, 2021 at 7:27 pm #1279845Yes We also have the same problem. The video is part of a slideshow. It was working OK a few weeks ago while we were in the process of building the site but now we are just about to launch and the client isn’t happy because the video only plays once then says “Video unavailable”
Also just to point out my video is the the full width slider not a color section.

February 12, 2021 at 8:50 am #1279911Hi David,
Thanks for the update. I’ve been able to reproduce the problem you are having on separate site. I’m not sure exactly why this is happening, but the YouTube server is returning a 400 error. I’ve reported this to our developers, but I don’t have a solution available for you yet unfortunately.
Please reply to this thread once you have read it, so that it gets added back to our support queue.
To everyone else posting in this thread, who is not @dpriemer; please check this thread for updates, or open a new thread, and include details to your sites, so that we can have a closer look at them.
Best regards,
RikardFebruary 12, 2021 at 11:47 am #1279962I’m having the same issue on all enfold sites, no matter what version. I did recognize it a few days ago. Since then the background video plays once and ends up showing the same error message as mentioned above.
Possible, that Youtube changed sth. in their API – maybe? They’ve made several playlistXXX changes on January 28, 2021 and February 9, 2021.
Hopefully your devs find a solution soon :-)
Kind regards
CedricFebruary 12, 2021 at 11:47 am #1279963Hi Rikard
I will start a new thread with my issue as suggested above but I’ve just done a bit more experimenting. As the Youtube video only pays once then gives an error I tried adding a Vimeo video instead. This is fine in Firefox (Mac) and plays within a slideshow. However in Chrome and Safari it will only play once then stops. It will not play any other slides in the slide show after the video.
So then I tried loading the video in from the server as I thought this might be a good temporary fix while the YouTube issue is being looked into. However even though I have all the fallback formats available of the video .mp4, .webm and .ogv the video will only play once in Safari and then it will stop. The other slides in the slideshow don’t get shown.
Regards
Colin.February 12, 2021 at 3:02 pm #1280054Thanks for looking into this Rikard. This is the reply you requested so the ticket gets back into your support queue.
Looking forward to hearing how this issue can be resolved as your dev team dives in.
Suspect this is all related to the first cookie-related issue I post in this thread (even though it went away and is now replaced by the second issue). For both issues, in my testing I found that:
1. The problem does NOT happen in Incognito mode
2. When I change the cookie settings from “Block third-party cookies in Incognito” to “Block third-party cookies” the problem goes away as it did with the very initial error I found.Might be helpful for your team to try the same as they debug.
Keep us all posted!

March 3, 2021 at 4:54 am #1284934Hello Rikard
add_filter(“avf_youtube_video_data”, function($data) {
unset($data[“playlist”]);
return $data;
}, 10, 1);I am not tech person, I went Enfold functions.php but not not sure where to add above code in functions.php?
Please help.March 4, 2021 at 5:52 am #1285219Hi spat154,
You can put it at the bottom of functions.php but since the latest version of Enfold (4.8) has been released just recently which contains a fix on the issue, please update your site to the latest version of Enfold, make sure to have a backup first.
Best regards,
Nikko -
