I want to add a video in the layerslider because I need text and a screen to come over it. So it’s just a background video with no sound. It looks fine if I self-host it, but it doesn’t play well because it’s a self-hosted video. So I put it on Vimeo and YouTube to see if I could make that work. I can get it in there but it doesn’t behave well. It jumps from a screen shot of its own choosing to the video and at the end, the big red player button appears in the center. I’ve tried all the YouTube attributes I could find to shut all that off, but to no avail.
Is there any way to do this? Should I get a different slider? Do I have to open a video editing program to create the effects I want and then just add it to a color section? Problem with that is I need a clickable button to appear.February 23, 2017 at 1:03 am #750761Hey CathySirvatka,
Have you added the video to the WordPress library, or did you just put it on your server? If not, I would upload the video to the WP library via the media link and then use that link as the video src.
Best regards,

Yes I added it via the media library. It’s 30MB, about 24 seconds. When I use the self-hosted version, it stutters for me, especially in Chrome, but eventually plays. But for others, esp. on Macs it won’t play at all. People thought it was just a photo. So is self-hosted the only way a video will work in the layerslider? If so, I’m gonna have to do a lot of workaround stuff.
CathyFebruary 23, 2017 at 11:23 am #750890Hi,
I think re-reading the issue gave me a better understand of whats going on. I used the following steps as a test and it should work:
1) On your page advanced editor click on the MEDIA ELEMENTS tab
2) Select FULL SCREEN SLIDER
3) Withing the options select + ADD SINGLE IMAGE OR VIDEO
4)Change type to video slide
5) Enter youtube url into the field ( working example I used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5guMumPFBag )
6) Select STRETCH VIDEO for video display
7) Select all boxes EXCEPT DISABLE AUTOPLAYYou can then select the caption tab, and then add the caption you need.
Let me know if this helps.
Best regards,

Thank you for your help. You are right in your instructions, but it’s still missing the mark for me. I posted the link in private section. The top of the page is how I want it to be, minus the stuttering or not playing. And if you scroll all the way down the page you’ll see what I got with embedding the YouTube video in a “color” section. It’s about 24 sec long.

Perhaps you can try different file sizes of the video to get optimal play quality.

I wanted to be sure to get back to you and for others to know the end result.
YouTube and Vimeo do not look good in the layerslider as a background video.
Self-hosting videos are sluggish and large.
But I was able to super compress the video – lost a little quality, but it’s a much better size for self-hosting. So that’s what I used in the layerslider background.
Also, made sure to have three versions of the video because not all players play mp4. So I added .webm and .ogg (ogv).
It’s all working decently now. Still has a small hiccup in the beginning on my Chrome (PC) but everyone else seems happy with it so there ya go.
Thanks for your help Jordan!
