Guys — this 4.1 update with the new mobile menu has been a disaster for me. Every time I check my previously very stable site, I find more problems. Tonight I discovered that a large mega menu which has worked fine for months / years is now not showing on mobile at all. There is no “submenu” showing on mobile.

On my site (www.thomashenthorne.com), “Marin County” is a mega menu with then each town in the county listed. It works fine on desktop as before. But on mobile, no sub items appear under “Marin County” even when clicked. If I turned on “create a clone” under mobile menu options this does not fix it. If I turn off mega menu, it works on mobile but then doesn’t look good on desktop because the list is too long.

This worked fine on Enfold 4.0 and previous versions, and I have not touched this menu. This update broke this functionality. I have spent hundreds of dollars on custom coding costs to try to get my website back to the functionality of 4.0. There is zero benefit I have seen to upgrading to 4.1.

To replicate on your end, try to create a mega menu with 15 sub items and see if will work on mobile. I am guessing not.

Sorry, I am frustrated, and I fear what else I will find on my site that no longer works on mobile. You guys really need to do an “all hands on deck” and fix these myriad problems and roll out an Enfold 4.3 asap.

    Thank you for listening.

    Hey Rob,

First of all, we are truthfully sorry for the inconvenience!

As i mentioned earlier, i still believe most of the issues are related to customizations to header and i am not just saying it not to blame the update as we are still collecting bug reports to fix some bugs and make improvements on current mobile menu which probably will be included in Enfold 4.1.3.

Could you please provide login credentials once again when your developer is done working on the site and if he/she cannot figure out the issue?

    Best regards,
    Yigit

Thanks Yigit!! I appreciate your note and understanding. I’ve just about reached the “end of my rope” as we say here and am really concerned with how many things are broken on mobile right now, including margins on tablet etc. I have multiple open threads and really appreciate your help.

Developer is working on the logo issues on the staging site as I type this, and when he’s finished I’ll provide login as instructed so you can take a look at the mobile menu. In the meantime if you have time, you might try creating a mega menu with 15 sub items and see if it works on your test environment.

    Thanks so much,

    Rob

I have the same problem on the website. The normal pull-downs are working on mobile. The mega menu option don’t work. Hope to find a solution soon.

Is there a way to display a different menu for mobile so I can rebuild the original menu and change the mega menu for desktop to normal pull down menu’s for mobile?

    Hi,

Please note that empty columns inside the mega menu is not going to be included inside the mobile menu. The columns has to contain sub menu items. Do you have columns inside the mega menu without sub menu items?

Thank you, Ismael, your comment made me start thinking and I was able to formulate a workaround that makes my menu work for now until 4.1.3. comes out hopefully fixing this new rule about mega menus. (It worked great before 4.1)

MEGA MENU THAT WOULDN’T WORK STRUCTURE:
Top Level Link that pointed to a page — > 13 sublinks all going to different pages (worked before)

MEGA MENU WORKAROUND: THREE LEVEL MENU:
Top level link that points to page —> Second link that points to same page as top level link (sigh, needless) —> 13 sublinks that point to pages

So I had to add a dummy link in the middle of the mega menu and now it works… but this is not a good solution from a UX perspective and I hope the developers can restore the way the mega menu used to work.

Thanks for your help, though ,this at least gets those pages back on mobile…!!!

PS The other big flaw with this workaround is that LEVEL TWO of the THREE LEVEL MEGA MENU is not clickable on mobile but is clickable on desktop.

This is clearly a bug and you guys really need to push an update on this before the weekend… PLEASE!

I will never update Enfold again the first week an update comes out. I will treat it like Yoast where I watch the support boards for a week before I update their Plugin. If I could revert I would but my coder has now built a bunch of custom coding to get the header working again so I can’t go back. Thank you again for trying to help!

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,

Thank you for the update. Could you please provide a link to the page where you’ve done the “workaround”? We would like to check it.

    Best regards,

You can go to http://www.thomashenthorne.com on mobile and then hit the hamburger menu, select “Marin County” and then select “Marin County Overview” and then the towns will open up starting with “Corte Madera”

You have to do this on mobile, obviously. The problem is that “Marin County Overview” is also a page and I’d like to be able to click on that like with the old menu or the desktop menu. But the only way to make that clickable is to clone the top level menu which then causes other problems.

Hope this helps you guys de-bug this…. Yigit has also spent some time in my backend of my site looking at the menu structure etc.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,

That is actually the default behavior of the parent menu items if the sub menu items are hidden. Please set the “Enfold” > “Main Menu” > “Burger/Mobile Menu” > “Menu Icon Submenu items” settings to the first option. It will display every sub menu items by default, rendering the parent menu items clickable on mobile view.

I don’t want to display all submenu items all the time. I want it to be like Enfold 4.0 and 3.0 and 2.0 and like the desktop version. This is so frustrating. I have 13 submenu items… it would look terrible to have them all open. Yigit took at look at this as well, and there’s another thread where Basilis says this is a known issue. This behavior changed with this new version, and the fact that it is inconsistent in the way it handles the submenu items (sometimes showing them, sometimes not) means it’s a bug, not an Enfold setting.

Please escalate this to Kriesi. There are multiple threads on this and we need one sticky thread that addresses the bug and tells us when a fix is coming.

Thanks for trying to help. My apologies for my frustration.

    Hi,

I don’t want to display all submenu items all the time. I want it to be like Enfold 4.0 and 3.0 and 2.0 and like the desktop version.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this issue is causing you but the behavior of the parent menu items didn’t change. If you downgrade to older versions, the parent menu items will still not be clickable because they are used to toggle the sub menu items. In the latest version, there’s a new option that enables you to clone the parent menu item and include it as a sub menu item. If you hide the sub menu items, you should see the “cloning” option in the Burger/Mobile Menu panel with the following note.

Since you selected to display submenu items on click, the parent menu item does no longer navigate to the URL it contains, but toggles the visibility of its submenu items. If you want users to be able to open the parent menu URL the theme can create a clone of that item in the submenu

The “Search for Homes” menu item is set as mega menu but the columns are empty. Please note that the new script will not render empty columns so it’s not advisable to treat the columns as an actual menu item but use it to separate menu items. I don’t see the need for a mega menu if there are only 3 items in it. I know this is a bit frustrating but I hope you’ll see the possibilities and potential of the new menu options.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

Is it possible to do this:

TOP MENU NAME —- > 13 submenu items, all clickable.

    Example:
    DINNER (top level)
then you click dinner and see:

    – Hamburger
    – Fries
    – Coke
    – Brownie
    – Apple
    – Water
    – Biscuit
    – Steak
    – Beans
    – Radishes
    – Tomatoes
    – Salad

Is that possible? Because no one has been able to figure that out on my site, with back end access.

    Thanks
    Rob

    #835230

    Hi!

Yes, that is possible but the top level item is not going to be clickable on mobile if the sub menu items are hidden. Please disable the mega menu option for the “Marin County” menu item if you’re not planning to add more than one column inside the sub menu container. You should use the mega menu option for complex menu with different menu categories.

If you want, we can also add a “go-to-link” text beside the top level menu item which enables users to access the parent or top level menu item. Example: // https://kriesi.at/support/topic/mobile-menu-links/#post-637296

Please provide the login credentials so that we can implement it on your installation.

    Best regards,
    Ismael
