Hi guys, I’m having this big issue with WPML plugin in my page: http://www.rvarq.com, because I don’t want to duplicate all my Portfolio items and categories, because it does not make sense. I just want to have duplicate content for PAGES and same Gallery and Portfolio items for two different languages. So, I found what happend to this guy, Enfold user too. https://wpml.org/forums/topic/same-gallery-and-portfolio-items-on-two-different-languages/ Their recomendation is to duplicate every portfolio item and categorie. In my case 268 items.
The most strangest thing is that within the setting of “Translation Options” of the plugin, it appears disabled and without option of selection for the “DO NOTHING”, as it is shown in the following screenshot http://s33.postimg.org/90j7o16b3/Portfolio_items_and_categories.jpg
Do you know what can I do? Is it real this? “Why you are against duplicating? Duplicating just creates another database entry – the files are not duplicated. This usually takes no more than 10kb – if it is a long article.” in page 2 of: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/same-gallery-and-portfolio-items-on-two-different-languages/page/2/

    Hey nicolasweh,

    Thank you for using Enfold.

I will have to ask you the same question. Why don’t you want to duplicate the items? The main purpose of W P M L is to enable users to duplicate or translate the posts or pages. Duplicating the item means adding another entry in the database which will not affect the performance of the site. If you’re worried about the images, those files are not duplicated. W P M L enables you to assign the same media files on translated content. If you don’t want item duplication, you shouldn’t have use W P M Lin the first place. You should have created a subdomain then clone the site.

    Best regards,

Ok, I got it and thanks for the reply Isma.
But let me tell that if those portfolio entrys has nothing more than images or video and some text for the title, in that case there will no need for duplicated. So, for a plugin that Enfold announces that “the theme is also optimized for the WPML plugin, in case you need to run multiple languages at once“, one would expect that something as basic was contemplated.
268 was not an exaggeration, and of course is not a joke: http://s33.postimg.org/9bsacljxr/268.jpg
Perhaps if I had known this beforehand, I would not have removed the plugin GTranslate to use WMPL.
    Have a nice weekend.

Hi Isma, just close the post, not big deal in duplicate the content, everything is kept separated by language, I thought that the list of portfolio items, would all an endless list, but no, Spanish and English on one side separately.
I’ve pasted the original mail I receive in reply to my question, because there’s information about the performance of the site for duplicated content that can be useful to some other user in the same disjunctive.
    Best regards.
