I’ve hunted and hunted and can’t find the answer to this question anywhere. If I set a featured image, if it isn’t the correct size, it gets cropped in odd places in order to fit the space. But I can’t figure out what the “right” size is. HELP!

I’m not really looking to alter image size. I’m wanting to know when I create a new blog post, what size I should make the featured image. I design all my own graphics, so I can make it any size I need to. I just can’t figure out what that is.

    Hi Takara22,

Here are the images sizes used in Enfold, you can prepare your graphics accordingly

Hi – so … I have this list of images, but I have so many on the website that look terrible because they are being cropped. I installed the plugin mentioned above, but can’t seem to get it to make any difference on images and cropping. Maybe I don’t know how to use the settings properly.

    HELP.

I want it to NOT crop vertically featured images. It’s chopping off the top and bottom.

    THANKS

    Hi Takara22,

Can you please point us which element, in particular, you’re having issues with?

Could you please attach some screenshots of the issue?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi:

The blog page shows most of the images at about the right size:
    https://www.magnificentu.com/blog/
Even though slightly cropped on this blog page, things still look mostly fine:
    https://www.magnificentu.com/blog/page/3/
But if you click on some of those images on that page to read the article, ick:
On this one, the featured image at the top had so much cut off, I inserted the actual image further down in the article just so people could see the whole thing: https://www.magnificentu.com/nutrition-herbs-aromatherapy-flower-essences-natures-natural-healers/
    And another one: https://www.magnificentu.com/spring-equinox-celebration-rocked/

    Thanks

    Hi,

That is the default size of the entries’ thumbnail (845x321px). You can increase the size with the Simple Image Sizes plugin. Go to the Settings > Media and then look for “entry_with_sidebar” thumbnail. Adjust the width and height, update, save and then regenerate the posts thumbnails.

    Best regards,

I thought the images that are being cut off on the top of these pages were the “featured” images:
On this one, the featured image at the top had so much cut off, I inserted the actual image further down in the article just so people could see the whole thing: https://www.magnificentu.com/nutrition-herbs-aromatherapy-flower-essences-natures-natural-healers/
    And another one: https://www.magnificentu.com/spring-equinox-celebration-rocked/

I think the ones on the blog pages I showed you looked OK. Those, I thought, were the thumbnails.

    Hi,

these pages were the “featured” images:

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, that’s what I meant by “thumbnails”, the featured images. Did you try the plugin?

    Hi:

I made this comment a few days ago in this thread: ” I installed the plugin mentioned above, but can’t seem to get it to make any difference on images and cropping. Maybe I don’t know how to use the settings properly.”

For “featured size” This is how I have the settings::
    featured size Maximum width
    1500
    Maximum height
    1500
    Public name
    featured
    Cropping NO
Show in post insertion ? YES

    featured_large size Maximum width
    1500
    Maximum height
    1500
    Public name
    featured_large
    Cropping NO
    Show in post insertion ?
    YES

    Hi,

You should increase the size of the “entry_with_sidebar” thumbnail. That is the default size of the featured image in the single post page. After the adjustment, save it, update then regenerate the thumbnails. The regeneration button is located at the very bottom of the Settings > Media panel. Just select the “entry_with_sidebar” thumbnail in the “Thumbnail regeneration” list.

    Best regards,
    Ismael
