    Hey!

So earlier this week, two of our sites that use an Enfold child theme did a weird thing where it seemed like the theme defaulted to a fresh installation — none of our content or pages appeared and the header displayed an “Enfold” logo, but oddly, the footer was still normal. All pages showed a 404 error. I had one user report of our WordPress backend going “blank” accept for the sidebar/navigation. This lasted about 1.5 hours. During that time, Sucuri logged downtime for the site.

As I was trying to fix things, the site(s) came back and the only thing I had to fix was reselecting the homepage in our theme settings. No idea why only that would reset. This happened on both sites. The second site is hosted on a different server with a whole different company. The only connection between the two sites is our Envato purchase token.

Kriesi looked at the main site and found nothing wrong. Sucuri ran a full malware removal and didn’t find anything significant. So I’m still trying to figure out what happened. At first I thought a glitch with Envato erased our license which MIGHT have caused the trouble, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

HERE’S MY WEIRD QUESTION: My coworker who was in the WordPress backend while this happened logged in to see a blank dashboard except for the nav/sidebar. And they say in the upper right (where you can access your profile) they saw a little picture of the Guy Fawkes/V for Vendetta/Anonymous Mask and the word “Hello.” So … what was that?

FYI: So far, Googling the Guy Fawkes stuff has turned up nothing similar. My only theory is that the site somehow defaulted to a demo installation or something which included a dummy avatar using the Guy Fawkes mask. But I have no idea.

    Hey Mike,

That sounds a bit strange, I can’t tell you why the mask avatar appeared unfortunately. We’ve had other users reporting that their theme settings had been reset though, and in those cases, it was a plugin called Email before download which caused the problem.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Understood, thank you!
