We have a background video using Vimeo. It works great in all browsers except Chrome. In Chrome, it seems about 70% of the time the Vimeo video loads frozen and doesn’t autoplay. But if you refresh the browser, it will start playing. I think I’ve narrowed it down to this error in the console when it does freeze: “Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.”
Also not sure if this is related, but only in Chrome do I also see the Vimeo tools loading over the video.

    Any thoughts?? 🤔

    Hey Christie,

The site you linked to results in a 403 forbidden error on my end. Please remove any access block you might have added.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Apologies – Try now?

    Hi,

Thanks for that. The background video plays as expected in both Firefox and Chrome on my end though, is there a sure way of reproducing the results that you are seeing on your end? Please note that there is nothing in the theme which would randomly not load content.

    Best regards,

Maybe it’s in an incognito window?

    Hi,

The site is not loading on our end. Is it down?

    Best regards,
    Ismael

No, it should be up still – working fine for me – whats the error?

    #1475467

    Hi,

There’s no error, but the site keeps loading indefinitely without displaying anything. We also tried it on incognito mode.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

Well that’s not something I’ve heard from anyone yet. How about this page? I made a simpler page thats JUST the video. (It is showing me just a frozen video in Chrome incognito)

    Hey!

    Thank you for the update.

The page is loading correctly, but as you mentioned, the video is not playing automatically. Have you tried muting the video or adding the mute parameter to the video URL?

    Best regards,
    Ismael

Adding &muted=1 to the parameters at the end of the vimeo URL seems to have been the trick to get it to autoplay in Chrome incognito! Thank you Ismael :)

    Hi,

Great, I’m glad that Ismael could help you out. Please let us know if you should need any further help on the topic, or if we can close it.
