    Hi there Enfold team!

Playback for the Vimeo video background on my homepage is quite slow, and frequently buffers.

The video is hosted on a Vimeo Plus account so videos should be fast. Here’s how it loads on its own.

Curiously, when you view the video on the regular Vimeo link there are no speed or buffering issue, but when used as a video background on my site, it is slow. I am also using a plugin called Autoptimize to speed up my website.

Is there anything I can do to optimize the video playback on the website? I’ve also contacted Vimeo support and here’s what they said:

    Hi there,

When testing the video on your site on my end I am unable to replicate this behavior and the video loads successfully on my end.

I’d like to collect more information so we can better understand what might be happening here. Please provide the following information:

I’ll need for you to log your playback experience using our player “debug” tool.

    Instructions:

    1) Open any video you’re having trouble with
    2) Press play and watch the video (the longer you can watch, the better)
    3) Once the issue occurs, press “d” on your keyboard to open the debug panel
    4) Click the blue “Copy Debug Key” button to obtain the unique ID associated with your playback session
    5) Paste the entire id into your email and send it our way for analysis. (Note: The debug key will be comprised of random characters which will then be used to access playback information in our system)

    Additional details I need:

    * A detailed description of the problem you’re seeing (e.g the video buffers before starting playback)
    * Please try this download speed test and send me the results: http://testmy.net/download
    * Please let me know if you’re seeing the same issue in all browsers, or just one browser

Once we have this information, a specialist will be in touch to go over the results. Thanks for your help and patience so far!
    Sincerely,

    Nicole B.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!! :)

    Hey hackoffseries,

Thanks for the login details. Your video is not playing at all when I’m not logged in, and it plays perfectly when I am logged in. That leads to be believe that you are getting cached results, could you try clearing the cache from your caching plugin and leave it deactivated until you have solved this problem?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hey Rikard!

Thank you so much for your response. I think you are right, the caching plugin is causing the background video to freeze. Does this mean I cannot use Autoptimize on my website?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Thanks for the feedback, I’m not that familiar with that plugin, but I’m guessing it has different settings which you can try turning on and off to see what works and what doesn’t on your site? You might have to check some other caching or optimisation plugin out if it still won’t work after that.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi there Rikard!

I have disabled all caching plugins and got this response from Vimeo’s technical team. He mentioned that one issue may be with Enfold. What are your thoughts on this?

    Thank you so much! :)

    Hi,

I’m not sure what to respond to since he doesn’t get into specifics. The video on your front page is loading fine on my end now though, we can’t do much about internet speeds unfortunately.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard!

Thank you for your response. He did mentioned this:

I reviewed your page once more, and I am seeing a slight delay before the video player appears; however this delay seems to be deriving from your plugin (theme), as opposed to the Vimeo player. The author of this background feature has implemented our API to interact with the player, so they would best positioned to assist with any performance related issues.

The delay before the video appears happens on my end too. I was thinking maybe because there is also a delay with how Enfold connects with their API?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

You can remove our element, use a widget and embed it like that.
Would that work out for you?

    Best regards,

    Hey Basilis!

I wish I can use the widget and embed code, but I also need to have the logo in front of the background video, with a caption below.

Do you have any ideas how to make it work?

    Here’s the website:

    Thank you so much!

    Hi,

Unfortunately, it would require quite some time and customization of the theme to achieve this, so I am sorry to tell you that this is not covered by our support. However, if it’s really important for you to get this done, you can always hire a freelancer to do the job for you :)

    Best regards,

    Hi,

I’m not sure if we can help you out with this if you don’t want to use the default elements in the theme. About a possible delay; everything which loads on a website takes time and videos are no exception to that.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
