Is it possible to make a youtube video the background for a 2/3 column, and if so, how do I accomplish that?

You could try adding a custom class to a color section, add a video background to that, and then with css change the section width to 50%.

I see. Does the video have to be a background? Can you use a 2/3 column with text-box and add the video to that. You can size the video iframe still to match the current width.

Look into this plugin to achieve the same effect https://wordpress.org/plugins/video-background/. You would just give the column a unique identifier, and point the plugin to it.
