Hello,
Had a client website go down yesterday when updating Enfold theme to 4.3. I recovered the pre-update website through backup, then also loaded the pre-update version into a test bed. I assumed a plugin conflict, so I disabled all the plugins in the test bed then attempted the theme update again, but I got the same result.
There is a child theme running on this, which I inherited with the client. I have no idea if the problem is with the child theme or not, but the child theme has been running fine for the last couple years.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Gary

It seems that you would need to get your update through FTP.
The best case – in this version is also to update by deleting the old folder and uploading againTry it and let us know

April 30, 2018 at 10:11 pm #949242hello,
After installing by FTP I received the same result unfortunately. I viewed https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/install-enfold-over-ftp/ and confirmed I had installed correctly.
Obviously not a widespread problem, I’m not sure what about my install is causing this. This is my first exposure to Enfold but I’ve been on WordPress for a while. I inherited this theme with a new client, it has worked great before this happened. No problems with Enfold version upgrades.
Any ideas how to proceed?
May 2, 2018 at 7:56 am #949875Hi Gary,
Sorry for the problems, did you try to activate the parent in case the child theme is causing the problem? Just to rule that out.
If that is not the case then what version of PHP are you running on the server?
Best regards,
RikardMay 2, 2018 at 9:47 pm #950318Hi Rikard,
Thanks for sticking with me through this.
I did switch to the parent but got the same error. I then tried deleting the child theme completely, activate the parent and upgrade. Unfortunately this didn’t work either.
I’m running PHP 7.0 on this domain.
I see you released a new version this morning, let me try upgrading again with that, and if I run into trouble I’ll again disable or delete the child and retry.
If that doesn’t work I will load Enfold into a generic new WordPress install in my test bed, just to eliminate anything global on my server that might be causing this.
I’ve got client work first so it will take me few days, I’ll be in touch with the results.

May 2, 2018 at 11:42 pm #950377What do you mean with “crashes website”? Maybe it’s the error I got and this thread/solution helps you? Or do you just get an empty screen after loading? From your describtion I can’t figure out how your site behaves in the frontend.
May 3, 2018 at 12:29 am #950380I get an empty screen
I have an example loaded in a test bed here:
https://secretsindesmoines.risingnova.workIf I switch wp-content back to the pre-upgrade version the website loads just fine. Let me know if you have further questions.
May 4, 2018 at 12:58 am #951174I was able to load the upgraded Enfold theme and the child theme into a generic wordpress install no problem. They work great.
I’m not too surprised. I inherited this WordPress build, and the database is a mess. I can extract and load pages and such into the clean working install.
btw I like your theme, it’s my first time using it. I can consider the issue resolved, since I now have a path to fix it.
May 4, 2018 at 5:20 am #951276Hi pacificdruid,
Great, glad you got things working and sorry for the problems. Please let us know if you should need any further help on the topic or if we can close it.
Best regards,
RikardMay 5, 2018 at 7:56 pm #952160you can close it. I’m sure the problem was in the database somewhere, it was a hot mess I inherited. I’ve rebuilt the site on a clean wordpress install, and everything is working.
Thanks again!
