This is the error. After updating theme inside WP, my site immediately crashed.
This is the error. planningforever.com is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500I’ve tried to manually upload the theme through FTP, twice. Cannot access my /wp-admin. Cleared cache. No changes.
FTP and WP credentials are in private content.I’m using the Child Theme as primary and make all my changes inside there. That was not updated I believe. Unfortunately I made a lot of changes last week and had not yet backed up my site.
Thank you in advance.January 27, 2018 at 12:25 am #903587Same thing happened to me.
January 27, 2018 at 2:20 am #903605I enabled debug

January 27, 2018 at 4:04 am #903615I manually uploaded the newest enfold from scratch (deleted the original enfold folder first) that I got from themeforest, which is 4.2.2. It still doesn’t work. The only way it works is if I restored from a backup the enfold folder I had before I updated.
January 27, 2018 at 6:04 am #903628January 27, 2018 at 6:17 am #903632@mike I have 7.1 PHP version installed
January 27, 2018 at 6:51 am #903635Hi,
This is very strange, in the interest of getting you site back up while we try to address this issue, would you like to downgrade to the older version? Do you have this version? Which version was it?Best regards,
MikeJanuary 27, 2018 at 6:58 am #903637I tried changing it to 7.0 php and it gets stuck on the maintenance screen and that’s all I can ever see again.
January 27, 2018 at 7:03 am #903638Hi,
@feoleb I just checked your site and it is up and running, please checkBest regards,
MikeJanuary 27, 2018 at 7:08 am #903639Hi,
@saundra If you would like to downgrade to v4.2 please see the link in the Private Content areaBest regards,
MikeJanuary 27, 2018 at 4:43 pm #903691@mike Okay that worked. And I would have done that immediately, but since I upgrade inside WP, I didn’t have the v4.2 Honestly, I don’t believe I’ve downloaded any out of the ordinary or unusual plugins, we recently moved servers so everything looks new on the site. But I welcome you to look at it.
Anyway, thanks for the link, I will DEFINITELY backup my site now. And honestly, this has never happened in five years of using the template. Hope you find the culprit.

January 27, 2018 at 5:52 pm #903704Hi,
Glad to hear that your are back up, would you mind if I created a copy of your site to test on my localhost to see if I can recreate the issue and try to debug?Best regards,
MikeJanuary 27, 2018 at 5:54 pm #903707Yeah I downgraded back to 4.2.0 from a backup and it works. I’m on php 7.0 now and when I do 4.2.2 it does not work. The files don’t copy over properly (missing files) when doing it via wordpress and then when I do it manually via ftp it doesn’t work. Like I’ll completely delete the original enfold folder of 4.2.0 and copy over the 4.2.2 folder so there’s no interact between the two, and it still doesn’t work.
January 27, 2018 at 5:56 pm #903709Hello Mike, if you want to copy my website you can do that too.
January 27, 2018 at 6:12 pm #903712@mike sure!
January 27, 2018 at 6:44 pm #903720Hi,
@saundra thank you.
@feoleb thank you also, yet I recommend starting a new thread because when you post to the Private Content area the thread opener can view it, and should I need to write to you via the Private Content area you will not see it. Also it gets a little confusing for us to work on two conversations at once. Thanks for understanding.
When you do start the new thread, please include the WP admin & FTP access again in the Private Content area.Best regards,
MikeJanuary 27, 2018 at 9:46 pm #903764Hi,
@saundra I have tested on my localhost, I used all-in-one-wp-migration to copy the site, and deactivated all plugins. Then manually updated to Enfold v4.2.2, then activated all plugins except real simple ssl, as my localhost has no ssl, and found CyStat crashed the site:
But I don’t think you were using it anyways. Here is my localhost settings:
So unfortunately, I found no issues, and the only difference we have is I’m using php v7.0.3, and your using php v7.1, which I don’t have. Also MySQL is 5.7.11
Sorry I was hoping to find a issue to report.
Do you have the option to try php v7.0.3?Best regards,
MikeJanuary 28, 2018 at 1:47 am #903832Okay (and you should know that I’m only a wanna-be-geek who knows enough to be dangerous) – but wanted to help you so you can have a dependable theme.
MySQL is Database client version: libmysql – 5.1.73 (Does that sound correct)?
GoDaddy only gives me the option to select 7.0 php, so I did.Inside WP with all my plugins you have seen while activated and one extra new one WPForms that I added today to fix my contact us page, I opted to update to Enfold 4.2.2
It took a long time to connect to my server and had this message: Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute. (for a about 10 minutes, it NEVER takes that long).
And then of course, it crashed with the 500 server error
So maybe it’s the SSL ???When I manually updated through FTP – it worked fine and I redid that and am back up.
Honestly this is my busiest time of the year so I’m not interested in having a down website. Just wanted to help to troubleshoot because I don’t think I’m the only one having this problem.January 28, 2018 at 2:05 am #903833I was using PHP 7.0 and it resulted in the 500 error trying to update. What I did was upload the theme to the themes folder trough the web file manager as a zip file and extracted there. After that, now is working.
January 28, 2018 at 4:37 pm #903899Hi,
@saundra thanks for the update and I will make a note of this for the developers, and I respect that you are very busy, and thanks for your patience. If I read correctly as of now your site is now updated and working correctly?
@jlgarcia thanks for confirming that updating though WP gave a 500 error, and the update via FTP solved.Best regards,
MikeJanuary 28, 2018 at 5:10 pm #903903@mike I’m confirming that through FTP I am running v4.2 I cannot upgrade to v4.2.2 through WP or FTP. So I have an older version and my site is up. We have a bandaid to the problem. I’m hoping to be able to upgrade at some point, I’ll just watch. Thanks for being so responsive!
January 28, 2018 at 6:00 pm #903909Saundra, I would talk to Go Daddy and escalate it… it definitely sounds to me like a server issue. As a former Go Daddy customer, I have to say that 99% of my problems went away when I switched to WP Engine, for what that’s worth.
January 28, 2018 at 6:15 pm #903910@goldengate415 I think I will, as it seemed waiting too long to connect to the server. Although I know people have had problems with them before and with other hosting, I’ve been a customer with them for 18 years and really have always been pleased. They sure have changed a lot, but hasn’t all businesses? Thanks for the idea.
January 28, 2018 at 6:47 pm #903914Hi,
@saundra Thanks for your correction, I believe goldengate415 offers a good point. Perhaps it would be worth testing during a free trial period. For in my localhost test of your site, I couldn’t reproduce your issue. And you don’t want your site down for testing, I believe the other option here would be for you to create a staging clone on a sub-domain for us to test with, yet if it turns out to be a server issue there won’t be much we can do.
Best regards,
MikeJanuary 30, 2018 at 7:54 pm #905084Just tried to update Enfold 4.2 –> 4.2.2. and crashed my site, reverted back to 4.2 and it is back working fine.
First time I have had Enfold crash a site on update…
January 30, 2018 at 8:03 pm #905088Same here. I updated and lost the entire theme in wordpress. I need a copy of 4.2. Help!
January 30, 2018 at 10:22 pm #905193I’m having the same issue. Posted for help here #905067 with no replies. Can someone please advise. Do I need to down grade back to what I was using ? if so, what version would have been the original from purchase date of Aug 2015? or can I down grade to 4.2 to get up and running??

January 31, 2018 at 2:56 am #905286Hi,
@emac, @rickswearingen, @shawndubois,
Please open new threads so we can assist, in these case we may want communicate in the Private Content area, but as this is not your thread you will not see what we write, nor will your info be private. Also it gets confusing when a group is communicating at once, thanks for your patience and understanding.
Please note, as a rule of thumb, ensure your webhost has PHP v7 installed.Best regards,
