I have three websites running Enfold 3.8.4 on GoDaddy’s servers. Updating to 4.41 requires server upgrade at GoDaddy to PHP version 7.0 or greater and MySQL version 5.6 or greater. It’ll cost me a bunch more for this upgrade each year.
What am I missing out on by not upgrading? The sites work fine, and WordFence is keeping out the bad guys. Is it more than a security issue?
Thanks for your advice.
I can’t imagine. Most of the time it is the other way around; that if an older PHP is used by the provider a fee is due. This is because they ensure that security updates are still executed for older versions that are no longer supported.
What will happen if I keep on using Enfold 3.8.4 and ignore the update prompts?
Hi,
It could become a security issue since PHP versions 5.6 and 7.0 won’t receive any more security updates. There is an increased risk of the theme not functioning as it should as well. I would recommend that you upgrade both themes and hosting or change to a different hosting provider which provides PHP 7.1 or above by default.
