I really need your help with this.
I didn’t update WP (i’m at 4.9.15) and Enfold for years now. Those tokens, gutengerg and updating procedures was a mess. Also the event manager plugin didn’t work anymore, so i stuck right there.
I need to get it done now, so please help me out here with clear instructions and not just a link to a other post where i would have to look though all the problems/solutions other people had.
Thanks in advance!July 24, 2020 at 5:58 am #1232868Hi superbikecoach,
What PHP version are you using?
Normally, you can do the following steps:- Backup the site, install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site under maintenance mode.
- Switch to default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty) and delete Enfold theme.
- Update WordPress to the latest version
- Login to ThemeForest and download the latest version of Enfold (use the account you used to purchase Enfold).
- Unzip the file downloaded from Enfold which should generate a folder, find the file called enfold.zip.
- In your WordPress Dashboard, upload enfold.zip in the Themes (install and activate), if you’re using a child theme, activate the child theme instead.
- Check for any errors in your site, if none is found, remove the maintenance mode.
Best regards,

How to restore all enfold settings?
Will this run with my event manager plugin?
What can I do to not to have that gutenberg editor?July 24, 2020 at 11:46 am #1232939Hi superbikecoach,
I was assuming you are using less than Enfold 4.6 since you mentioned you haven’t updated Enfold years ago, 4.6 was released August last year.
Most likely the Enfold theme you are using uses API key and no option to add tokens (since envato changed from using API key to tokens), though I understand it is inconvenient but for transition it will require this process but this is only at this point, once you have updated to the latest version of Enfold, you can put the token and can update the Enfold theme via Theme Options.
As for Enfold Settings, it should be preserved however to make it sure just export the settings you currently have.
If the event manager plugin is compatible with the latest version of WordPress then most likely it will run properly and as for gutenberg, it is included in the latest version of WordPress (since 5.x).Best regards,
NikkoJuly 24, 2020 at 8:05 pm #1233060See, this is where confusion doesn’t end.
The enfold theme update page says i run 4.5. When clicking ‘check manually’, it leads me to the wp update page.
However, please line up the exact order to get it all updated.
Oh, I don’t want the Gutenburg editor. That messed up EVERYTHING. I am using ‘Avia layout builder’, and I believe it came with enfold, yes? How can I prevent that gutenburg destroys the entire layout again when updating WP?July 25, 2020 at 5:07 am #1233136Hi superbikecoach,
It doesn’t show accurately the latest version that’s because it’s using API key which envato seems to have totally removed (this wasn’t the case when it transitioned before).
I have posted the exact order in order to get it all updated.
As for gutenberg editor, there’s no need to worry about it since the latest version of Enfold provides an option to only use Classic Editor (in Theme Options > Select Editor then set to Use WP Classic Editor) which should fix the gutenberg concerns.Best regards,
NikkoJuly 25, 2020 at 8:51 am #1233162To verify this. Just to make sure I won’t end up in another 2 days of reversing and a dead business page/shop… You are saying that this is the order to update for me, and that I don’t need tokens:
Backup the site, install and activate a maintenance plugin and put your site under maintenance mode.
Switch to default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty) and delete Enfold theme.
Update WordPress to the latest version
Login to ThemeForest and download the latest version of Enfold (use the account you used to purchase Enfold).
Unzip the file downloaded from Enfold which should generate a folder, find the file called enfold.zip.
In your WordPress Dashboard, upload enfold.zip in the Themes (install and activate), if you’re using a child theme, activate the child theme instead.
Check for any errors in your site, if none is found, remove the maintenance mode.July 25, 2020 at 11:18 am #1233173Hi superbikecoach,
I just want to clarify the steps I gave is a transition from the old Enfold theme (that uses API key) and the latest version which uses tokens and also update WordPress to the latest version.
And yes in this type of update, a token isn’t needed (but tokens will be needed in order for you to update the theme with ease next time via theme options).
Once you have done the steps instructed above, you can register the theme with tokens: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/Best regards,
