    Hello,
    what is the best practice to migrate a old Enfold Version 3.1 without child theme from a PHP 5.6 server to a new server with PHP 7.1? When trying to migrate the site on the new server the theme crashes because of PHP Version which is 7.1. When updating the enfold theme to the newest version the old settings get overridden by the new theme. I tried to export/import theme settings but this did not work out? So how can I migrate the old layout (perhaps there are even some changes made in the php files, I do not know)?

    Hi Sigmund

    I would create a child theme first and then migrate it.
    This should save you the hassle that your settings are overwritten, because you are updating the parent theme but using the child theme will all the settings in there.

    Hi Michael,
    thanks for the advice. The former maker of the site has made changes to the (parent) theme files which I cannot retrace. And arent’t these changes are overwritten, even when I create a child theme, then migrate the site and update the parent theme on the new site?

    Yes – you are correct.
    If you don’t know what has been changed on the parent theme itself then it will be tough to create a child theme with all your settings.

    Hi Sigmund,

    The closest version i could find to Enfold 3.1 was 3.1.3 and i attached it in private content field. If you would like, you could check differences on files to find what kind of changes previous devs have made. They could probably modified style.css and possible functions.php files.
