Hi guys! I saw the notes on updating with that plugin but I am seeing the update prompt in my dashboard. Is it ok to update there as I’ve done in the past?

    Many thanks,
    Jonathan

    Hey Jonathan,

You can always do a backup first before udpating your site, we always suggest this to minimize the risk.
Another way also is to create a staging site and update from there first: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/ so if you experience any issues you can try to fix it on the stage site without affecting your live site.

    Best regards,

Hi Nikko! Thanks but I think there was a misunderstanding. Sorry my question was regarding the latest update instructions to 4.5 it says not to use the dashboard. My question was is it at all possible to do through the dashboard still or not for this version? I see the update prompt so was wondering if it’s ok to try or if this can cause issues, or if it just doesn’t work at all.

I ended up setting up a staging site and trying but I just couldn’t get it to download so I’m assuming it just won’t work that way and that’s why we need to do the other ways though. Please let me know if that’s not correct, otherwise you can close this thread. Thanks!

    Hi Jonathan,

I see, I think with regards to Enfold 4.5 specifically with envato’s api changes there are some people (maybe most) that tried to upgrade in the dashboard but failed.
I think with the number of complaints we have regarding this issue, that’s why we suggested for now to update manually via ftp.

Hi Nikko, oh ok thank you. Regarding updating via the plugin method provided or via ftp, does it matter which one we use or both will work the same and will retain all settings, etc?

    Hi jgoldberg1983,

Both should work, I haven’t tried the plugin but via ftp I’m sure it only changes files but settings should remain the same as they are stored in your database.

    Hi Nikko,

Thank you, it’s good to know those are supposed to work well. The reason I was wondering if the dashboard would work or be better is because I’m having issues with the update and since it’s my first time not updating via the dashboard I wasn’t sure if that was the reason. You can see the issue I’m having, link in private content section. It hasn’t been replied to yet so maybe you can see if you know what’s happening?

Thank you for taking a look! If that’s an expected issue with this update or if there isn’t another workaround I have a fix, it’s just a pain to go through every content section and also a bit unnerving to have happen and not know the reason as not sure what else may be wrong that I’m not seeing.

    Thank you,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

Sorry for the late response and thanks for pointing the other thread you made.

No worries, Nikko. And thanks so much. I wanted to update the site this past weekend so I took the time and went through all background elements and removed/readded them. That seemed to solve the issue – it took a bunch of time but it seems ok now.

I left the issue live on staging to see if you know why those didn’t retain properly with the update in case an easier/quicker way I should know how to fix for future updates or in case something for you guys to fix in the theme. Please do take a look and let me know in that thread either way! Thank you and you can close this thread.

    All the best,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

Sure, we’ll try to check on it and answer the other thread we made.
I’ll be closing this thread then.
    Thanks for using Enfold :)

    Best regards,
    Nikko
