    Hi,

    I have marked at my Themeforest account that I would like to be notificated if there is an update for the theme.

    But I do not get notification emails, sometimes I get one, sometimes not.
    For example I got no notification email for the 4.5.4 update … it was only by chance that I heard about it when someone on Facebook asked me if I had not received any notification, too.

    And yes, I have checked my spam folder, and no, I do not update out of my WordPress (I made it all manually via FTP), and no, I do not get notifications in my WordPress because I have not added my ENVATO details there, because I would like to have full control of updates making manually via FTP – but that is not the question here either.

    I contacted ENVATO why this notification features is not working and got this answer today:

    Please be advised that there are several authors that doesn’t provide update notifications. It really depends on the author as they have an option if they wish to notify their buyer/s of their updates. Even if you have a check in your notification box it is still up to the author if they will inform you of an update.

    So obviously ENVATO is not to blame, but the theme authors are responsible for making update notifications???
    Could you please make them work out of your/our ENVATO account?

    Thank you.

    Hey Gitte,

    Publishers have the option to update silently or not, it’s up to us really, and sometimes we feel that it’s better to not send notifications.

    Best regards,

    okay, thanks, but how should I know then, when it is an update???

    Why in the world should it be “better” not to send an update notification? What are the updates made for? :D

    Hi Gitte,

    If you have a valid and working token then you should be notified in the backend of WordPress?

    @alexanderduenchem
    , because sometime we are worried about things breaking on some installations, then it’s better if only a few customers have the problem. Then we can fix the problems in the theme and publish another update.

    @Rikard

    I do not use any token – I do everything fully manual via FTP.
    I have marked the notification in my ENVATO account for theme updates.

    Hi Gitte,

    Thanks for the update, I would recommend you to configure and add a token to the backend of the theme. You don’t have update manually if the automatic updates work if you do. If you only have the notification at Envato, then you will only be notified when the release is not silent like I wrote earlier. You can also check the changelog if you like.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
