    Hello Enfold team,
I need to update my wordpress version, I’m not even certain which version I am running, but on my dashboard it is asking me to update to 4.9.4. I also need to run the latest Enfold theme update (Version 4.2.3); however I have custom CSS (Quick CSS) on my theme and some other custom code on some of the template editors, will I loose all of that if I update.

Very frightened that I will crash my site (personal portfolio site) and I am in the midst of job searching, so recruiters are looking at my site all the time currently and I cannot risk it crashing.

What is my best plan of action to update and not loose any custom CSS and have my site look and behave like it should?

    Hey Sme4Design,

You can update without any reason – that would save you time.
Before that – make sure you always take a backup.
That is what should be done EVERY single time you do any major change to the web site.
it is important for it ” health ” and to be sure that after updating you can always restore.
    It saves you time!

Let us know if you need more info

    Best regards,

Hello Basilis – Thank you for the reply. “You can update without any reason – that would save you time.” Not certain your exact meaning of this statement? Does that mean if I back-up and launch updates that I will have to go use the back-up to re-populate pages across the site, which would insinuate that I will have to rebuild parts of the site? Or does it mean that everything should stay in tact (including custom CSS in Quick CSS) and that the site will just update to new versions (WordPress and Enfold) and only minor tweaks may need to be implemented?

The phrasing in your message leads me to believe that “Sure, just launch the updates (back-up first) and everything should be just as good as gold!”

My worry is that I launch WordPress update and it breaks my site because I am running an older version of Enfold. Then when I try to launch the new Enfold Update, even more chaos happens. In my imagination, I am thinking I will have a blank slate and have to rebuild the whole site from the back-up.

    Still afraid!

    Hi,
I took a look at your site and can see that your a very old version of Enfold v3.8.4
Normally we would say that a update should not effect your site, but you should always make a backup first.
But I’m not sure how the elements have changed since v3.8.4, you may experience minor changes.
I don’t want to scare you, most likely all will go well.
Your custom css with stay in tact, and I didn’t see any custom functions in functions.php, but you said that you made some custom edits to some template files, do you know which ones? You will need to download and save these or they will be lost, Then you will need to make the changes to the new files.
After you update you should install a child theme so your custom changes will be saved. Read about it & Get it here
Please check with your webhost to find out what PHP version you are using, hopefully 5.6, but it could be older.
Because you are looking for work, and can’t have any down time, my recommendation is to create a staging site. That is make a sub-domain, install WordPress on it and migrate a copy of your site to it: all-in-one-wp-migration plugin.
    All-in-One WP Migration tutorial
Then update it to see how it goes, then you can make any adjustments you need to with no stress. Once done you can migrate it to your live site very easily. Best case is that this will take you a couple of hours and will have no issues, worst case you will need a little help making some minor changes and we will help :)
Ask your webhost to help you create a sub-domain with WordPress on it, call the sub-domain “staging” or anything you like. Then read the “all in one” tutorial above, it’s easy to use. Then try updating the staging site manually via FTP: https://vimeo.com/67209750
it will be better than the auto update. If you have any questions let us know.

    Best regards,

    means theme have issue

And unfortunately we do not support with them issue so we can not check anything

Please help get my site back up please!

    Hi,
Typically this is due to a older PHP version being used by your webhost, please ask them to update your PHP version to v7
Another solution could be to replace your header.php with this one.

    Best regards,
    Mike
