Hello Enfold-Team,
I’m experiencing saving issues. Especially when working on my „start“ page (a.k.a. home page). Yesterday I lost a major part of my start page work. Other pages than the start page are not affected.
I already talked to my hoster, but we couldn’t figure it out. Restoring of a server backup from let’s say monday or tuesday makes no sense, as I would loose the work I did on the other pages.
I would be so glad if you could help, as I have no clue why this problem occurs. I have the assumptions that the problem is connected with the „revisions feature“. Why?
1. Revisions are not working properly. On the start page I have them covered from July until 21st of October. Then there is a gap and they don’t start until 27th of October – although I did some major work on the 25th and 26th of October. So the problem is, i can’t go back to yesterday to restore my start page.
2.1. I frequently get the following message (in german, but I roughly translate it for you): „There is a automatic backup of this Post, which is more recent, than the one below. Show the automatic backup.“
2.2. When I click the „Show the automatic backup“ link, I geht this message from my browser: „This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave – data you have entered may not be saved.“ Options: „Stay on Page“ or „Leave Page“. This message also makes no sense in my opinion, as I haven’t „entered“ anything in these particular situations.
2.3. When I click „Leave Page“ than I’m sometimes sent to the (not properly working) revisions page OR to the „Post Overview Page“ (which makes no sense at all!)
Thank you so much for you help!
Mike
November 30, 2019 at 5:27 pm #1161471Hey Mike1050,
Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for the login. When I logged in your homepage showed the “Block Editor” with the Enfold shortcode within a “shortcode” block, is this how you work on your pages?
Please see the screenshot in the Private Content area. I only ask because typically the last used editor state is the one shown.
I see that you have 2 empty grid rows and 2 empty color sections, I assume that this is where your missing content was?I’m not sure why the WordPress Revisions didn’t work properly, unfortunately, I don’t believe your content is going to be recoverable. Typically when the Advanced Layout Builder elements break or content disappears, this is due to unclosed html tags used in the title fields, for example, often people wish to make the titles bold but they use
<strong>Title<strong>
instead of<strong>Title</strong>
but since you now have missing content I’m not sure if this was the case. But the new WordPress “Block Editor” is the cause for your messages:
There is an automatic backup of this Post, which is more recent
This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave – data you have entered may not be savedThis is because the new WordPress “Block Editor” is trying to automatically save every few moments whether you have made changes or not. This can be annoying unless you keep this in mind, you can use the Classic Editor option within the theme panel:
Otherwise, if you made no changes please don’t save when prompted on exit.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help and restore your page.Best regards,

thank you for you reply and your help!
No, I never worked with the Block Editor or the Shortcode box. I use the Advanced Layout Editor (I guess also called Avia Layout Architect).
I can’t point down the missing content to just the grid rows and color sections. I guess the main problem is the saving/revisions issue, which somehow resultet in old/lost content or content sections on the page.
Thanks for the hint of switching to the „Classic Editor“. I did just that and I’m starting now to rebuilt the page …and hope this fixes the problem.
Thank you & best regards,
MikeDecember 3, 2019 at 8:19 pm #1162352Hi,
Thank you for the feedback, sorry I couldn’t help more with the revisions issue, I was not able to recreate this on my localhost, but this is a core WordPress function.
I did find that some hosts limit the number of revisions to save resources, because each revision is a complete copy of the page.
This is done in thewp-config.php file
with this code snippetdefine( 'WP_POST_REVISIONS', 3 );
with the number “3” being the limit.
Some plugins that “clean” WordPress Transients have remove revisions in error, I notice your “WP Healthcheck” plugin cleans transients. I’m not saying this is the cause, but perhaps one or both of these could contribute to this. It’s really hard to say at this point.
I hope this is solved for you, but we will keep this open for a while for further feedback from you, or if you wish we can close it and you can always open a new thread about this in the future. As a side note, I recommend checking your web host options, “cPanel”, for full site backups. I’ve seen some that will take nightly backups on a rotating 30 day basis automatically, typically you have to turn this on yourself, but it could help with the many things that could happen to any modern web site.
Best regards,
Mike -
