Hello,
I’m not sure if these two problems are related but I am trying to edit the text in a widget on my WordPress site. Every time I try to save the changes, I just get a little spinning ball and nothing ever saves. I read on another thread that perhaps it’s due to an old version of PHP so I tried to update my site’s PHP, which brings me to my second issue. When I try to update to PHP 7.0, the site crashes with a critical error and I have to go back to PHP5.6 to get the site back up. I’m baffled because I have two sites with what I thought was the same setup and the other one has none of these issues and updated all the way to PHP 7.2 just fine.
I’ve updated everything else that was out of date, got rid of any plugins that were questionnable in terms of compatibility but I still have the widget editing issue and I still can’t update to PHP 7.0. I’m at a loss so would appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thank you!

Thanks for the login details. The theme should work without any problems using the PHP versions you are referring to. Could you try to disable all plugins temporarily, then update the PHP version to see if that works please? You can then activate the plugins one by one to see if or when things start breaking.
Best regards,
RikardJune 10, 2020 at 1:27 pm #1221179Hi Rikard, thanks for your reply. I’ve tried disabling all of the plugins and then updating to PHP 7 but I still just get a white screen and a critical error.
A little additional troubleshooting – If I switch from my Enfold child theme over to the WordPress Twenty-Twenty theme, I can update to PHP 7 just fine and the site doesn’t crash. If I then try to switch back to the Enfold child theme, however, I get the white screen and the critical error all over again and have to revert back to PHP 5.6 to get the site back up.

June 11, 2020 at 7:09 am #1221546Hi,
Thanks for the update. Does the same thing happen with the Enfold parent theme? If not then there’s likely something in your child theme which is causing the problem. If that should be the case then you can remove all your customisations and activate the child again, then add the customisations back one by one to see what is causing your site to break.
Best regards,
RikardJune 11, 2020 at 3:08 pm #1221710I just tried to update to PHP 7 using the Enfold parent theme and unfortunately got the same white screen and critical error message.
June 11, 2020 at 5:53 pm #1221833Hi suzannewm94,
Can you please check the server log for error?
Here is how to find it:http://snapcreek.com/blog/wordpress-error-log-friend/

VictoriaJune 12, 2020 at 1:01 am #1221921Hi Victoria, I’ve posted the errors I got the last time I tried to update to PHP 7 in the private content area of this post. I’m unfortunately not tech savvy enough to know what they mean or how to resolve them.
June 12, 2020 at 11:39 pm #1222226Hi suzannewm94,
The server needs to additional memory space, to fix it please increase your site’s memory limit, here’s a link that should help:
instead of using 256M you can use this value instead 128MBest regards,
NikkoJune 13, 2020 at 12:37 am #1222236Thanks so much to Rickard, Victoria, and Nikko for all of your help and for your patience. I just followed the instructions on the link Nikko provided and that appears to have solved all of my problems. I was able to update to PHP7.2 and once I got that to update successfully, I was then able to edit that widget that was giving me so much trouble in the first place. Thanks again!
