    I give up—I can’t figure out how to get rid of the horizontal lines in the top menu. (It looks like my menu items are in boxes, but I want only the vertical separators.)

    Please add following code to Quick CSS in Enfold theme options under General Styling tab

    #header_main_alternate {
  border: none;
}
