    Hey there!

I’m having a horrible time with the theme right now. I’ve updated it and it went ok (from child theme) but when I activated the parent back – just to adjust something and came back to the child, every customization desappeared (second menu bar, footer colors and several other stuff!!!)

I had accomplished this successfuly in the past, but now I’ve lost the hard work of months borthering you guys with questions. The strangest thing is that the costomizations exist on the style, functions and header files of the child theme but are not applied!!!!! Any suggestions might be appreciated.

    Best,

    Hi Harold,

I’m not sure why you would switch back to the parent, everything you can do in the parent you can do in the child? Please send us a temporary admin login so that we can have a closer look. You can post the details in the Private Content section of your reply. Also try to explain a bit further as to what is going wrong.

    Thanks,

    Hi Rikard,

I know it sounds useless to get back to the PARENT but once the theme gets updated the site’s authorship on the socket changes and I hadn’t copied the footer folder on the CHILD theme. Therefore, I usually went and manually modified the footer text without any trouble. However, this time when switching back to the CHILD I had lost customizations that it shouldn’t (at least for logic’s sake) cos’ as far as I understand any changes on the child back end should be reflected on the parent as well. Is that correct?

So the elements I’ve lost (colour setups, 1 social icon, second menu) make the whole thing a bit too confusing. I’ve made this very question in the past so as to avoid any surprises: “do the modifications on the child back end get entirely reflected on the parent?” Then I myself had to find out that in deed the parent may ignore those changes completely. Even some quick CSS lying on the child got erased once I went back. So at this point it is a mystery to me whether the problem is chache-related, hosting-chache related or in deed theme-related?

As for the recovery of lost settings, no worries, I’m working on them. I just think it’s important to create some content related about this sort of issues novices like me can run into when diving into the deep obscure mysteries of web desing and programming :p

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure what would have happened in regards to disappearing content in Quick CSS, that should not happen in any scenario. It’s difficult to test as well since we would have to do it again on your installation and I guess that is something you don’t want :-)

But I would advice you to do this; back up your Quick CSS to a local text file periodically if you want to be absolutely sure. Also, anything you can do in the parent you can do in a child. A child theme only overrides or extends the parent, that’s it’s only function. So if you want to change the socket text, then you can do it in the child.

Not sure what else to tell you so please let us know if something is still unclear to you :-)

    Regards,
    Rikard
