ButsieFebruary 14, 2014 at 12:17 am #223706Hello,
Love the update. Only few questions.
Site – http://publicusco.com/2014pubco/
video – http://publicusco.com/2014pubco/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PubCo_video_1280x470.mp41. video doesn’t load in Firefox. Im using v27
2. video doesn’t load on mobile. I’m using iPhone 5.
3. video doesn’t load on iPad. I have 1st Gen.
4. when viewing on smaller screens, the height of the viewport cuts off text vertically. (Changing the height of browsers cuts height of video)
5. when changing the width of the browser, it scales properly. but leaves black space on top and bottom and cuts off text horizontally. Will using Vimeo or Youtube fix these issues? I don’t mind using those services, I just don’t want play buttons to be displayed and want continuous looping.
thanks in advance for the help,

The video is always going to be cropped when using it as a background video. So you shouldn’t ever try and have text alignment unless its right in the middle of the video.
1) I don’t have any issues with FF on my end. What OS is this on?
2 and 3) HTML5 video specs must meet certain criteria to play on devices. You can have fallback video options for the other formats which will get played automatically as long as they have the same name and are in the same folder as the one you add to the theme options. So make sure your video is able to play on iOS.
4-5) See above. Videos, no matter where they come from will get clipped on some screens so that they stay responsive.
Vimeo and Youtube embeds don’t show controls unless you want them to.
Best regards,

///Self Hosted videos

video doesn’t play on Firefox.
I’ve tried converting .mp4 to WebM, placed into same folder, and named the same. Firefox still doesn’t play the video.
– is there another format that will work? or am i missing something entirely?///Vimeo Hosted Videos
http://publicusco.com/2014pubco/home-selfhosted/
works fine on all browsers.
However, at the end of each video, it displays thumbnails of other videos before advancing to the next slide. And on mobile, only displays a screen shot of the video.
– Anyway to get fix these two issues?///Youtube Hosted Videos

didn’t work on any browserthanks in advance,

February 18, 2014 at 12:42 am #225232Just converted .mp4 to .ogv for self hosted video.
works fine on firefox nowFebruary 19, 2014 at 5:19 pm #226288Glad to know. I thought Firefox had not supported mp4 now too but since it relies on a users system having the codec it can definitely be a bit buggy.
If anyone else is having issues and would like to help us debug I’ve started a topic requesting information be sent to us so we can try fixes live and ‘in the wild’.
See: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/2-5-background-videos-user-examples-for-debugging/
I’m closing this one for now so if you have issues still and its only on a specific browser/os/device I would appreciate allowing us to take a look at your live install by submitting your information via the method in the post above.
Regards,
Devin
