I recently updated my Enfold theme. The front end of my site still looks the same; but the back end (admin dashboard) is nothing but a blank screen. None of the admin files are visible on the site even though they are still in the root folder. My hosting company says it is because of the theme.
Here’s the URL: forgivenministry.org
I am able to log into the site; but when it takes me to forgivenministry.org/wp-admin it’s a blank screen. I checked the FTP server, and the files are all still there, but the template isn’t letting me see them. Obviously, there’s a disconnect somewhere.
Please help! Thanks!
April 18, 2017 at 10:58 pm #779697My hosting company changed the template from Enfold to something else so I could see the back end. I didn’t know they had done that until AFTER I had submitted my request. So if you go to the site, you’re not going to see the Enfold theme. I think it’s one of the generic WordPress themes. Would it be possible to switch out the old Enfold theme for the latest version in the FTP folder, without losing all my settings?
Thanks!

April 19, 2017 at 6:38 am #779793Hi,
Yes, you shouldn’t lose any of your settings if you update it via FTP: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/updating-your-theme-files/. Please make sure to have proper backups in place if anything should go wrong though.
If you should continue to have problems then I would recommend that you rename the plugin folder in WordPress to something else. This will deactivate all plugins and it would let you know if there is a conflict coming from any of them.
Best regards,

When I updated my template on April 18, I did so through WordPress. Today, I updated using FTP. I did it twice and nothing happened either time.
So, I changed the name of my the plugin folder, as you suggested. Again, nothing happened. The theme is running on the front end – http://forgivenministry.org/ – but the screen is blank on the back end – http://forgivenministry.org/wp-admin.
One thing I noticed is that there is an additional plugin folder in my wp-content folder. It’s called mu-plugins and it contains a file called sso.php. I don’t think that was there yesterday. I checked one of my other sites that uses the Enfold theme and it doesn’t have that folder. Could that be the cause of the problem?
There are several other items in my Forgiven Ministry wp-content folder that don’t exist in this other site’s wp-content folder. One is called 2plugins, but it doesn’t contain anything. Another is called endurance-page-cache.off. It has several items in it. The dates on these folders indicate they originated with the original installation of the site.
Since I cannot access the back end of my site, I cannot do any more with the plugins page other than change the name of the plugins folder as you suggested. But I will say that before this happened, there was a message saying that the sso.php plugin was required. I clicked on it, but there didn’t seem to be a way to activate it. Perhaps because it was in a different folder – the mu-plugins folder? But when I tried moving it to my regular plugins folder, I got a fatal error message; so I moved it back. I did this while I had a different template selected, so I was able to see the back end. Once I switched it out for the Enfold theme again, the dashboard disappeared and I wasn’t able to do anything else.
The only other thing I can think of is if there might be a problem with my enfold-child folder. Is it possible that your update affected that? But then, why would the front end be visible and not the back end, if it had something to do with the enfold-child folder?
So, I’m at the end of everything I know to do. I need your help again.
Thanks!
April 19, 2017 at 11:46 pm #780216I’ll be honest with you, Rikard: the reason I switched to Enfold as the exclusive template to use when building clients’ web sites is because it is so much easier to update than all the others I’ve used in the past. So we HAVE to get this thing figured out. I cannot go back to all the difficulties I put up with using other templates. The odd thing is, this was my most recent site. I just built it in January. Of all my sites, this one should have been the EASIEST to update.
So please, please help. Thanks!
April 20, 2017 at 5:45 pm #780683One more suggestion: we are using Salesforce on our site. Right now, the form is not appearing on our contact page – just the word “salesforce” in a bracket. Could it be that the Salesforce plugin is causing this problem? And if it is, then why didn’t renaming the plugins folder alleviate it?
Thanks for your help.
April 20, 2017 at 8:28 pm #780746I have turned off and turned on all the plugins, yet nothing brings my Dashboard back. Also, on the front end, your new version of the template is not recognizing the Calendar, which is one of the main features of your template. Honestly, at this point, I think the problem is with the template itself. I’ve tried everything else. The only thing left is to reinstall the previous version of the template.
Why is no one answering my questions? At least a courtesy post saying you’re working on the problem would help. At this point, I am very disappointed with your support. Please send me some kind of answer.
Thanks!
April 21, 2017 at 2:28 am #780941Since you guys have been either unwilling or unable to help me, I have switched my theme back to the previous version – 3.8.4. I guess I’ll just have to live with that.
What good does it do to have “support” if you cannot get help when you need it. Before this, I was really proud of you guys – the way your theme worked, how easy your updates were and how well you guys offered support. No more. Now I am so disappointed I don’t know what to say.
Thanks for nothing, guys.
April 21, 2017 at 1:29 pm #781174Hi,
We are sorry for the late reply Waitsel! Not really sure how but apparently this thread is overlooked.
Can you please refer to this post – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/move-from-a-local-installation-to-a-live-server/ and create a testing installation so we can look into the issue there?
If you do not mind having backend issues for a while, please let us know so we will update the theme to the latest version and try to solve the issue.
Best regards,
YigitApril 22, 2017 at 2:12 am #781497Howdy,
I have taken everything back to the previous version, and everything is working except the calendar. So before we worry about the update, could we just fix the calendar? When I go to http://forgivenministry.org/events/, which is supposed to show the calendar, I get a “Nothing found” message. When I go to http://forgivenministry.org/events/month/, which is also supposed to show the calendar, or http://forgivenministry.org/events/list/, which is supposed to show the events list, I get the same message. Everything else related to the calendar, like the countdown clocks and the events themselves, is working.
I have reinstalled the calendar plugin that came with the previous version of Enfold, but that does not seem to help.
Please help me solve this mystery, and then let’s tackle the update. Thanks!
April 22, 2017 at 2:26 am #781498Never mind. I got the calendar to work.
Okay. Moving on. Let me create the testing installation and I’ll get back with you. Since everything is working now, I may just keep what I’ve got. If a testing installation will allow you to test the site without it affecting the real site, that’s okay. I just don’t want the site to keep going up and down.
