I am close to having my new site made with the Enfold theme (currently on a subdomain) ready to replace my existing/old site.

I have about 1400 images in the wp-content folder organized by year and month on my existing site that need to be moved to the new site.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for how I can go about moving this images and making them work (the old site is WordPress too)? From what I understand, they won’t work if you simply copy & paste the folders in FTP (and my internet connection is slow, so it would take forever).

    Thanks!

    Hey Moondreamer21,

You should be able to move your whole site using a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-migrate-db/

I already used something like that to move some databases before I started redesigning the site.
It’s just that the images in the wp-content folder haven’t been moved. Can this move the images ONLY?
That’s what I’m looking to do.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
No, but you could use ftp to download the wp-content/uploads/ folder. Then use ftp to transfer the uploads folder to your new server (just go to the wp-content folder and drag’n’dop your uploads folder into it).

That seems like the most logical thing to do, but like I said – from what I understand, the images won’t actually connect or work that way? On top of that my internet connection is slow and I have about 1400 images to move.

    Hi,

An other solution is to zip the folder with Cpanel and upload on the new server and unzip – again with Cpanel.
Let us know if that would work.

Just use the Export function in WP under Tools
Works great for just what you want to do

    Export
When you click the button below WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer.

This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.

Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function in another WordPress installation to import the content from this site.

    Choose what to export
