Hi, I am writing because I am unable to get my favicon to appear in Google search results (SERP), although it is correctly displayed on the browser tabs. Can you help me please?

I have already thoroughly searched the forum and followed all the suggestions provided in previous threads (such as #1486419, #1486479, and #1486399), but the issue persists.

Here is a detailed list of what I have already done:

Format & Conversion: I have converted the favicon from PNG to a proper .ico file using recommended tools (like favicon.io).

Root Directory: I have manually uploaded the favicon.ico file to the root directory of my server via FTP, as suggested by Mike, to ensure Google Bot can find it outside the /wp-content/uploads/ path.

Theme Settings: The favicon is correctly set in both Enfold Theme Options and via Appearance > Customize > Site Identity.

Code Injection: I have tried adding the manual tags to the functions.php of my child theme using the wp_head action to force the icon declaration: <link rel=”icon” href=”https://mysite.com/favicon.ico&#8221; type=”image/x-icon”>

Caching: I have cleared all server-side caches (Litespeed/Plugin), and I have requested a new crawl via Google Search Console.

Visibility: The favicon is visible when logged in, in incognito mode, and on various browsers, but Google still shows the default globe icon in search results.

Despite these steps, which have worked for other users in the past, my site has not updated in the SERP for several weeks.

Can i ask you if there is any Enfold-specific setting or a conflict in the header output that might be preventing Google Bot from correctly indexing the icon? (i heve the last updated theme and worpress).

    Best regards,

    Stefano

    Hey jodys1976,

    Thank you for the inquiry.

We can see the favicon correctly when we checked and according to these sites, the site contains a favicon.

is it caused by board soft that there is a usage of an entity in your link notation?
(because you are not using the code tag to post that, i can not say if it is the reason for it.)

the quotes you set are all straight double quotes :

    <link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="https://mysite.com/favicon.ico">
    <link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="https://mysite.com/favicon.ico">

and try both entries via wp_head

Hi Guenni007, thank you so much for the heads-up! I’ve just added both entries via wp_head as you suggested. I’ll update the topic! Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas

    Hi,

Have you tried removing the wp_head code and use the allocated field for the Favicon in Enfold > Theme Options? Then make sure to wait for a while because changes in the SERPs take days to reflect.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Happy holidays.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have followed your instructions: I removed the custom code from wp_head and uploaded the png 512×512 favicon directly through the Enfold > Theme Options field.

I understand it might take some time for Google to crawl the site and update the SERP. I will monitor the situation over the next few days and let you know if it’s resolved.

Happy holidays to you too! Best regards

    Hi Ismael,

I am writing to update you on the situation. Unfortunately, even after following your last suggestion (removing the custom code and using only the Enfold Theme Options field with a 512x512px PNG), the favicon is still not appearing in the Google SERP.

It has been two weeks since the last change, and I have also requested a fresh indexing via Google Search Console, but the default globe icon remains.

    Since I have already:

Used the Enfold built-in favicon field.

Verified that the file is accessible in the root directory.

Cleared all caches (Litespeed and server-side).

Checked that the site is correctly validated by external favicon checkers.

Is there anything else we can check? Could there be a specific meta tag generated by the theme that might be conflicting, or perhaps a suggestion on how to make the favicon “more attractive” specifically for the Google Bot crawler?

I would really appreciate any further technical insight you might have.

    Best regards, Stefano

    Hi,

    Thank you for the update.

(removing the custom code and using only the Enfold Theme Options field with a 512x512px PNG)

Have you tried using an actual favicon or .ico file instead of a png? Again, we checked the site on a favicon validator and it can properly detect the icon. It’s also visible in the browser tabs.

We found these markups, which might be conflicting with the default favicon. These are not generated by the theme.

    Hi Ismael,

    Thank you for your feedback.

I followed your advice: I have completely removed the custom code and I am now using only the Enfold Theme Options field with a 512x512px PNG file.

Regarding your question: I have tried using a standard .ico file in the past, but the result was the same. As you noticed, the icon is visible in browser tabs and detected by validators, but it still fails to appear correctly in Google Search results (where the default WordPress globe icon is often shown instead).

You mentioned that you found some markups not generated by the theme that might be conflicting. Hoping this helps more people here on the forum, could you please point out which specific lines of code or which files/plugins are generating these markups? This would be extremely helpful so I can remove them and leave only the theme’s default favicon output.

I want to make sure the site’s head is “clean” to allow Google to crawl the correct icon.

    Best regards, Jody

Hi Ismael, Even after uploading a 512px PNG and clearing all server caches, the output remains stuck at 96x96px. Maybe the theme is filtering the apple-touch-icon size.

Google requires a higher resolution (at least 144×144 or 180×180) to show the icon in SERPs. Since Enfold is downscaling it, can you provide please the specific filter to disable this automatic resizing in the theme’s header?

    Best regards, Stefano”

    Hi,
Under WordPress > General Settings > Site Icon you had no image chosen, so I picked one for you which was your 512px by 512px png favicon. WordPress now shows that it is picked:
    fULwcUQ.png
Then I changed your Enfold Theme Options > Favicon to your real favicon.ico from your root directory instead of the png image:
    fULQtWb.png
I believe this should  help, now you need to try going to your Google Search Console and request that your site is crawled again, which may take a few days, once Google Search Console says it has been crawled, check again.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for looking into this and for making those adjustments in both the WordPress General Settings and the Enfold Theme Options.
I will go ahead and request a crawl via Google Search Console now. I’ll keep an eye on it over the next few days and let you know if the favicon updates as expected.

    Best regards, Jodys

    Hi Mike, Hi Ismael,

I’m writing to give you some great news: the favicon is finally appearing correctly in the Google SERP!

It took a few days after Mike’s last adjustments (setting the Site Icon in WordPress General Settings and the .ico file in Enfold Options), and the Google Bot has finally updated the snippet.

Thank you so, so much for your top professional support, your patience, and for taking the time to log in and fix the settings manually. It made all the difference!!!.

You can now close this thread.

    Best regards, Stefano (jodys1976)
