First, apologies: I’ve submitted this twice and both times neglected to put a topic title, couldn’t find my posts as a result, and no doubt have caused you time and trouble Very sorry about that.
Now that I’ve recovered:
In Chrome, my very simple homepage reacts unexpectedly awful (looks great in Firefox and, well, as expected in Explorer 11). The problem is the huge white space (nearly the whole screen while scrolling in Chrome) between a colorbox with fixed image and the element (icons) just above it. I’ve also noticed that the fullscreen slider (which is working ok here) is highly sensitive in Chrome to the slightest adjustment in page elements (the image lags and jerks/doesn’t scroll at all smoothly), so I’m hesitant to change anything much.
Anyway, I’m adding my site credentials in the post just after this in case you need them.
Thanks!

I restored it, but the problem remained. (I actually don’t need a site-wide copyright notice as such because only the individual authors on the site have copyright notices. Everything we write not subject to our publisher’s claim we’re glad to share via the creative commons license).
February 12, 2014 at 9:52 am #222634Hey!
Can you please post a screenshot of the issue? I checked the website and the spacing between the icons and the rock image is normal. You can decrease the padding of the content using this on Quick CSS:
.content, .sidebar { padding-top: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; }
Best regards,

I refer to the spacing only because on a regular page, this behavior does not occur–hence my theory (just a guess) that something is causing an issue in Chrome when the same code is on the homepage where the only difference is the lack of the title bar.
Moreover, I’ve already eliminated possibilities such as plug-in conflicts–and again, it was fine in Chrome before I removed the copyright notice. I’d like to know exactly what’s going on–what I did wrong, if that’s the issue–because right now I’m hesitant to use the page builder for fear of further issues.
Thanks!
February 12, 2014 at 4:43 pm #222868Hey!
I think the issue that you are seeing was actually the alignment of the image in the color section. I set it to be Centered both vertically and horizontally as well as stretch to fit so that it takes up the whole color section background.
I also added column elements to your HR element so they aren’t outside of the grid and have more even spacing.
There was also a stray HR element in one of the icon boxes but not the others so it made them look uneven.
Cheers!
DevinFebruary 12, 2014 at 5:11 pm #222889Hi, Devin! Thanks for taking a look and correcting my mistakes. But now there’s a problem in Explorer 11: The rocks image no longer spans full width as it did before (and as it does on FF and Chrome). Also, even in Chrome, the homepage isn’t nearly as fluid in Chrome as it is on the regular page I pasted above. Is this just one of those things I’ll have to live with?
Put another way: Can I get the homepage to behave exactly as it does on the regular page I noted earlier? (same code, very different results).
Thanks!
February 12, 2014 at 5:17 pm #222893What version of Chrome are you using? I get no difference between the two pages and there should be no difference in general.
And with IE11, make sure that it isn’t in compatibility mode as some users have had issues with IE doing that lately and it causing issues.
February 12, 2014 at 5:27 pm #222895Hi. Ok, I feel like an idiot re Explorer: I had it set to 80% zoom.
Chrome: I’m using the latest version, 32.0.1700.107 m. I called one other person, asked her to check in Chrome, and she also notices a “slight” difference in how the pages behave in Chrome.
February 12, 2014 at 5:48 pm #222913I just asked several more people to compare the homepage and the test page in Chrome, and the replies range from “definitely different” to “slightly different” (not unusual to have such subjectivity). The thing in common is, of course, the two (presumably identical) pages react differently in Chrome for whatever reason. I can get screenshots from several different machines within a couple of hours. Please let me know if you need them.
Thanks!
February 12, 2014 at 6:17 pm #222932This reply has been marked as private.February 12, 2014 at 8:05 pm #222979So my question is very simple–at least for me to simply ask it. ;)
How do I get the homepage to look and behave exactly like the test page in Chrome?
I have now tested on five different machines–same issue. The problem–with very little room for rational doubt–is with how Chrome interacts with this part of the theme. Please see my screenshots. Thanks!
Edit: It occurs to me to mention that you cannot see the difference on Chrome re the parallax scroll effect on and around the rock image on mobile devices–only on desktops and most laptops (but my users mostly use conventional PCs).
February 13, 2014 at 1:26 am #223125Hi. I’ve tried all sorts of things without success, but if you cannot see the difference when scrolling in Chrome, please do this: Go to the test page I noted above. In the admin panel under “Design” (lower right), then under Header Settings, change between “Display the Header” and Don’t display the header.” When the header is displayed, the page scrolls correctly and smoothly in Chrome. When the header is not displayed (as is the case on a homepage), scrolling is not smooth in Chrome and results in “jumps” that leave white spaces that cover nearly the entire screen. Again, please see the screen shot I posted above that clearly shows this. (In some monitors, there is nothing but white space as you scroll at one point between the icons and rock image). Also, if this will help: Note that if the image in the second color section is set to “scroll” instead of “fixed,” this affects the full screen image which becomes “jerky”–again, only in Chrome.
None of this is readily noticeable if you’re scrolling extremely fast, I suppose, but it does in fact “lag” when scrolling at anywhere near normal speed. We did this today on several different machines–all with the same result in Chrome. If necessary, I can send you actual video of several persons on the same page with the same scroll problem in Chrome. I cannot explain the issue more clearly in words and screen shots. You will notice that, as you scroll in Chrome, the second image (of the rocks) just “jumps” into view rather than smoothly coming into view as it does in all other browsers. If this is a theme bug with Chrome, please let me know (I understand that there’s no “perfect” theme), so that I can abandon attempting to correct the uncorrectable. I mention this because a very similar problem regarding Chrome was reported several months ago here: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/laggy-fullscreen-slider/ As in my case, the issue was initially denied, finally accepted after others reported the same, then a fix for the future was indicated. I gather it has not been fixed? Or is a different issue altogether? How was that issue finally resolved? Again, I ask so that I don’t continue on the proverbial wild goose chase.
But again, I want to emphasize that everything works and looks great where there is a header (the page title and breadcrumbs–i.e., on every page except home). There may very well be a solution in that fact, but unfortunately, I don’t know nearly enough about the theme to figure it out.
Thanks again!
February 13, 2014 at 10:16 pm #223675So that your time isn’t wasted: I’ll just change the site design and try to avoid the using the same combination of elements. Again, there IS an issue with Chrome, of that I can assure you, just as others have mentioned here in the past. But, as with those Enfold customers, I don’t think I’m going to get anywhere with this thread. No knock on Support: I appreciate your time and I believe you believe that the theme is problem-free.
Anyway, Enfold is a very flexible theme–I really do like it, despite its drawbacks–so I’m sure I can do something else close to what I wanted.
Thanks.
February 13, 2014 at 11:49 pm #223700Hello. Just to let you (and any others who might have a similar issue) know: It appears that the issue of the Fullscreen slider and parallax color section in Chrome has been corrected in the new 2.5 version of Enfold. After upgrading, all issues immediately disappeared and all looks and works fine.
Many thanks to the author of the theme who continues to work to improve it–and also to Support for their efforts.
