We’ve just started having this problem where we can’t use the space bar in special headings. Nothing happens when we press the space bar. We can delete spaces between words but we can’t add them.

    Hey chriscurnow,
Thank you for your patience, I assume the website you are referring to is linked in the Private Content area, if this is the case I note that it is using v4.4.1 from 2019, pre WordPress v5, this version of Enfold was not WordPress v5, Gutenberg ready. Yet I note that you are using WP v5.7, so I am not surprised that you are experiencing issues.
Version 4.4.1 was also pre Envato Token and used the old Theme Forest API so it could not update automatically, so at the time we were advancing to update manually via FTP. You will need to manually update via FTP now.

The easiest and safest way to do this is to download the newest version from Theme Forest and rename your current theme folder to “enfold-old” via ftp then upload the new “enfold” folder and check that your site is working correctly.
Should for some reason you wish to roll-back to the old version, it’s easy to do, simply rename the new “enfold” folder to “enfold-new” via ftp and then rename “enfold-old” to “enfold” then refresh your page.
Once you are happy you can delete the “enfold-old” folder via ftp, (not the WP theme page)
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your prompt reply. As you can see, I have only just now been able to have a look at it!!

I followed your instructions above and the Enfold page now shows our version at 5.7.1.

    However the problem still persists.

I just checked through some of the code and the problem is (not surprisingly) in the ‘keydown’ event listener – in the particular the listener with function load-scripts.php:1882

PHP is not something I have spent much time trying to understand so I can’t really follow where the problem is happening. But obviously the code is filtering out the space character.

This must be something to do with my particular setup otherwise you would have had 1000s of complaints.

I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find anything.

But it would be great if you could shed some light on this.

    Solved

Thanks for your help once again.

I just found the source of the problem. We had installed the plugin Ultimate Addons for Gutenbeerg.

Deactivating this plugin solved the problem.
